Approve meeting minutes from the June & August 2023 meetings 2. Local Food Advisory Council Housekeeping - Sen. Luz Escamilla and Rep. Mike Kohler 50 min - 12:10-1:00 1. Conflict of Interest Training - Nicole Hanna, UDAF A.G. 2. Voting Items a. Regulations Workgroup Voting Items: i. Recommend UDAF adopt a customer-first focus in implementing regulation, a focus on providing guidance and assistance. ii. (1)Recommend that UDAF adopt a policy that supports the local production and processing of meat products, especially the production of small-scale and direct-to-consumer products and to support state legislation to accomplish such. (2) Recommend that UDAF encourages congressional representatives to support federal legislation to support local production and processing and reduce burdensome federal regulation. iii. Recommend UDAF seek building block funding for staff and training of current staff to support local and small farm operations in both assistance and regulation activities. This would include a specific call for funding of a poultry inspector for the state. iv. Recommend UDAF start the process of conducting a need assessment focused on the identification of the barriers faced by producers in the state around local food production and processing, including hosting listening sessions in rural communities with producers. Development of a report from these needs assessments that can guide policy changes and future program development b. Other Voting Items: i. LFAC supports free and reduced meals for Utah school children 3. Reminder: LFAC Legislative Report a. Any items to be included in the end of year Local Food Advisory Council Legislative Report need to be submitted to Mitch Garrett by November 2nd. 3. Prime Act Presentation - Camille Knudson, UDAF Policy Analyst 10 min - 1:00-1:10 4. USU AgWellness Program Presentation - Jacob Hadfield, USU Extension 10 min - 1:10-1:25 5. Open Discussion 35 min - 1:25-1:55 1. Work Group Updates - Gina Cornia, Tamra Jorgensen, Ruby Ward and Kelsey Hall, and Symbria Patterson 2. Next steps - Next meeting not until April 2024 6.
