a. Regulations Workgroup Voting Items:
i. Recommend UDAF adopt a customer-first focus in
implementing regulation, a focus on providing guidance and
assistance.
ii. (1)Recommend that UDAF adopt a policy that supports the
local production and processing of meat products, especially
the production of small-scale and direct-to-consumer
products and to support state legislation to accomplish such.
(2) Recommend that UDAF encourages congressional
representatives to support federal legislation to support local
production and processing and reduce burdensome federal
regulation.
iii. Recommend UDAF seek building block funding for staff and
training of current staff to support local and small farm
operations in both assistance and regulation activities. This
would include a specific call for funding of a poultry inspector
for the state.
iv. Recommend UDAF start the process of conducting a need
assessment focused on the identification of the barriers
faced by producers in the state around local food production
and processing, including hosting listening sessions in rural
communities with producers. Development of a report from
these needs assessments that can guide policy changes and
future program development
