Notice is hereby given that the Syracuse City Disaster Prep Committee will participate in a meeting on Thursday Jan 28, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. in the large conference room of the Municipal Building, 1979 W. 1900 S., Syracuse City, Davis County, Utah. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss/review the following items: Welcome by Terry Palmer Chairman Call to Order Prayer Pledge Action Item Update District Yr Mo Workshop Date Topic Article Due Syracuse West Dist 2021 Syracuse District 2021 Syracuse South 2021 Legacy District 2021 Bluff District 2021 Committee Business: 1. Minutes from December Meeting 2. Election for Secretary for 2021 Year 3. Ratification of New Chairman and Vice-Chair moving up from Year 2020 4. Discuss April Disaster Preparedness Exercise focus - make assignments 5. Dan Merkling will write the operations document for the City's ECC 6. Terry Palmer report on J&J possibilities of raised gardening for a city-wide Zoom presentation; discuss other topics: freeze dried, etc. 7. Transfer Judy to discuss What's App texting program 8. MINUTES: DISASTER PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE MINUTES FROM MEETING 1/28/21 - 18:34 - Motion to open meeting by Duane Cheney; seconded by Patrick Carroll - Call to order: Terry Palmer - Invocation: Dan Merkling - Pledge: Terry - Minutes from December meeting - Read by Dan - Motion to accept by Duane; seconded by Dan; approved by all - Motion by Terry to promote Duane to Chair and Dan to Vice-chair; seconded by Patrick; approved by all - Election of Secretary for 2021 - Motion/nomination by Dan of Patrick; seconded by Duane; approved by all - Patrick accepted appointment - Dan will take notes for this meeting and send them to Patrick for transmission to Jody Mahlum - Discussion of April 2021 Disaster Exercise - Various options were brought forward; most were discarded due to COVID restrictions - Settled on doing a communications exercise, utilizing the Zoom app o Exercise date: April 17th at 10:00am o Will use the chat feature of Zoom in a non-password meeting for citizens to check in with their name and phone number o Zoom will be up for 30 minutes o 10 door prize baskets/bags will be offered as incentive to get better citywide participation o Committee members will solicit contributions from local businesses and organizations to fill the prize bags o Dan will author the small quarter-page blurb advertising the exercise It will be published in the Syracuse Connection in the March and April issues It will be published in the city's web site and Facebook page It will be provided to the five District coordinators for sharing with their Area coordinators to be published on the District and Area social media platforms It should be published once a week until April 5th and then daily until the 17th o When the exercise has ended at 10:30, the five District coordinators will check in on the same Zoom meeting with the city to discuss the results and to officially close the exercise o The door prize winners will be drawn from the participants and they will be contacted to pick up their prize at the City offices - Dan has started gathering information to create the ECC operations document - He will hopefully have a rough draft by next month - Terry reported on his discussion with J&J Nursery to provide a city Zoom presentation in March - Scheduled for March 13 at 10:00am - Will be broadcast from the Community Center - Terry will author the advertisement for this activity - Discussed upcoming articles for the Syracuse Connection - Lane Smith has submitted the article for the February issue on 'firearm safety' - Dan will submit the article for the March issue on 'personal disaster preparedness' - 19:43 - Motion to adjourn by Dan; seconded by Terry; all approved
