5. PARAT Tax Discussion
The council has approved the construction of a dog park at Barlow Park, supporting a full-time Arts Supervisor, and the renovation of the Arts Center with the PARAT Tax. Staff is working to plan for the remainder of the first 10-year period of PARAT Tax funds and will present several options to the commission for consideration and recommendation to the City Council.
6. Pickleball Court Restroom Funding Discussion
The FY21 budget (current operating budget) includes funding ($100,000) for restroom renovation for existing restrooms at Steed, Island View, and Kiwanis parks and $90,000 for a new restroom at Central Park. While those projects are important for the future of our parks system, the construction of the pickleball courts at Steed Park has created a critical need to prioritize a restroom at that location ahead of these other projects. Staff is recommending that this available funding be re-appropriated to fund a large restroom at Steed Park and to request funding for the original projects in the next budget cycle and requesting that the commission consider the issue and make a recommendation to the council.
