PUBLIC NOTICE OF CITY COUNCIL VACANCY
AND APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS
Please be advised that a vacancy exists on the Hurricane City Council. The Hurricane City Council will act to fill this vacancy at a meeting to be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, 6:00 p.m., at the Hurricane City Office, 147 N 870 West, Hurricane, UT.
Anyone interested in being appointed to fill this vacancy shall submit an application, a picture, a resume, and a brief 1-2 page written statement explaining why you are interested, how you are uniquely qualified to serve on the City Council, and any prior involvement in the City or community organizations or activities. In addition, please identify any concerns you have about the City and priority matters you hope to help address. Briefly explain your view on the Constitution and the role of local government and your ability to put in the time to properly serve. Submit all documents to Cindy Beteag, Hurricane City Recorder at the same address. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Qualifications to be considered to serve on the City Council of Hurricane are as follows:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a registered voter in Hurricane City
- Must be a resident of Hurricane or a resident of a recently annexed area of Hurricane for the previous twelve (12) months
- Not convicted of a felony, treason, crime, or offense relating to elections*
- Not have been declared mentally incompetent
*Utah Code ยง20A-2-101.5 states: A person convicted of a felony loses the right to hold office until (1) all felony convictions have been expunged, OR (2) ten years have passed since the most recent felony conviction AND the person has paid all court-ordered restitution and fines AND the person has completed probation, been granted parole, or completed the term of incarceration associated with the felony.
