DRINKING WATER ORDER
GLENDALE TOWN water is contaminated with E. coli
BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING
What happened?
- November 19, 2025: A routine water sample collected from the distribution system tested total coliform positive.
- November 21, 2025: Follow-up/repeat samples were collected and one of those samples was total coliform positive.
- November 24, 2025 (results received November 25, 2025): Additional samples were analyzed, and the results confirmed the presence of E. coli in the distribution system.
Out of an abundance of caution and because the presence of E. coli has been confirmed, we are issuing a BOIL WATER ORDER for all customers until further notice. We understand this is an inconvenience and are working closely with state regulatory officials to resolve this issue and return the water system to compliance as quickly as possible.
We are committed to keeping the public informed and will issue further updates as soon as new sample results or information becomes available.
What is being done?
- Immediate Action: A third set of samples is being collected today, November 26, 2025, for confirmatory testing.
- Results Anticipated: We expect to receive the results for these samples tomorrow afternoon November 27, 2025.
- Further Sampling: Depending on the results of today's samples, an additional set of compliance samples will be taken tomorrow or Friday to determine the extent of the contamination.
What should the consumer do?
- DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
- E. coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems.
- The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
