OFFICIAL MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION BOX ELDER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT A reception for Retirees was held at 6 p.m. at Box Elder Middle School. At 6:30 p.m. retiring employees were recognized and congratulated by the Board. Official minutes of a Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, Box Elder County School District, held Wednesday evening May 9, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Box Elder Middle School. Those in attendance at the meeting included Board President Wade Hyde, Members Nancy Kennedy, Lynn Capener, Connie Archibald, Bryan Smith, Julie Taylor and Chayse Quayle, Student Board Member. Also present were Superintendent Steven Carlsen, Assistant Superintendents Keri Greener and Terry Jackson, Business Administrator Rod Cook, officers of the Box Elder Education Association, district employees, representatives of the press and interested citizens. President Hyde welcomed those in attendance and conducted the business of the meeting. After the prayer, which was offered by Connie Archibald, Lynn Capener led the audience in the pledge of allegiance. Approval of Agenda Connie Archibald made the motion to approve the agenda. Lynn Capener seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Public Comment There were no patrons signed up for public comment. Recognitions Connie Archibald recognized the following: Superintendents of Rock band for playing for employee appreciation night Lorica Pilivi recognized the following: LeAnn Nelson - School Lunch Worker Box Elder Middle School Phillip Borup - Early Learning Center para Box Elder Administrative Association Volunteers Bob Roylance - Fielding Elementary Scott Tolman - Century and Foothill Elementary Elementary Teachers Cindy Fonnesbeck - Garland Elementary Susan Thompson - Three Mile Creek Elementary Secondary Joy Jones - Box Elder High School Eric Stamps - Bear River High School Related Services Bonnie Young - Head Nurse District Administrator Lissa Jensen - Literacy Specialist Building Administrator Clay Chournos - McKinley Chayse Quayle - Student Board Member was recognized by the Board for his service. Information/Discussion Items Monthly Financial Report Business Administrator, Rod Cook presented the monthly financial report to the Board. Silicone Slope of Utah Rebecca Dilg, Box Elder County Economic Development, shared with the board the economic development initiative called Silicone Slopes to promote, encourage, and support the technology industry. Policy Review Second Reading Policy 5050 Immunization Requirement Connie Archibald made the motion to approve policy 5050 upon second reading. Bryan Smith seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Board Discussion Items Book Review The Board reviewed Chapter 1 of the book 'Appreciation' with each board member expressing what impressed them about the chapter. Consent Calendar Nancy Kennedy moved to accept the consent items. Bryan Smith seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The Consent Calendar included the following items: Approval of the minutes of the working and regular meetings of April 18, 2018 Approval of claims numbered 00025481-00025842, 01041018, 08043018, 09042018, 09043018, ACH checks, Foundation, and School Activity Checks for the month of April. Personnel Items Adjournment With the announcement that the next meeting will be held on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., June 20, 2018 at the Independent Life Skills Center, President Hyde adjourned the meeting at 8:15 p.m. APPROVED: June 20, 2018 ATTESTED: School Business Administrator President, Board of Education Box Elder School District
