1. Survey for Prosecutors' Center for Excellence (PCE)

b. Survey Sponsor
i. National Prosecutor's Consortium, U.S. Department of Justice technical
assistance grant.
ii. The project directors of the grant are Prosecutors' Center for Excellence and
Justice & Security Strategies (JSS), a highly recognized research group.
c. Purpose of the Survey
i. To collect information about the work of county prosecutors of all sizes and
jurisdictions.
ii. To gather information about caseloads and other non-case related office
functions.
iii. To gather information then highlight innovative ideas and projects from
your office.
iv. We can add 10-12 Utah specific questions to the survey for our own benefit.

i. Office Information
ii. Jurisdiction
(1) what types of cases the office handles; felonies, misdemeanors,
infractions, etc., criminal appeals, civil work, child protection, etc.
iii. Staffing and Allocation of Work
iv. Budget Issues
v. Prosecutor Programs and Services
(1) Specialty courts, diversion, treatment, etc.
vi. Office technology
vii. Use of Federally Funded Programs
viii. Customized Utah Questions
e. Completing the Survey
i. UPC will provide PCE a spreadsheet with name and contact information for
one person per office that will complete the survey.
(1) I am recommending that UPAA take the lead on this project and we
ask each admin secretary for each office be designated as the contact
person who will complete the survey.
ii. Electronic survey is sent to each contact person from JSS.
iii. When JSS receives 33% of our responses, they will do a preliminary survey
of the results.
iv. When JSS receives 66% or more, they will do a final report.
