Description/Agenda: | Terra Academy Governing Board Meeting Date and Time: Wed March 22, 2017 at 6:00 PM Location:Terra Academy library, 267 S Aggie Blvd. - Vernal, UT 84078 Meeting Notice: Terra Academy Board members adhere to the following: 1. Know the charter and act to strategically uphold the vision and mission in our work. 2. Be informed, prepared and proactive through due diligence. 3. Represent the Terra Academy as a unified board. Mission: Terra Academy focuses on each student as a 'unique' whole person in a global society by providing individualized instruction in a community learning model through educational experiences including a broad range of curricular options and project-based learning opportunities that nourish individual talents, skills, and desires. Vision: The vision of Terra Academy is to help students become lifelong independent learners, productive members of society possessing respect for other people and cultures, who are stewards of our environment. School Rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Kind Motto:Learn, Grow, Be Agenda I. Opening Items A. Record Attendance and Guests B. Call the Meeting to Order Board members will review Key Performance Questions and Strategic Goals prior to meeting. C. Approve Minutes D. Approve Minutes E. Public Comment Option: Members of the public are welcomed to Terra Governing Board meetings. Please respect the time limit for this agenda item to ensure ample time for the board to conduct their scheduled business.The following are guidelines for presenting comments: - Comments should be submitted in writing at the time of presentation as a matter of record. - Comments shall be addressed respectfully to the entire board through the chair. - Comments shall not include complaints about school or board personnel; refer instead to 01-103 Complaint Policy. - Time for comments shall be limited to 3 minutes per person. A time limit of 15 minutes total for public comment will be observed. II. Finance A. Financial Manager's Report -Interim Financial Statement -Finance Update B. School LAND Trust Plan for 2017-2018 Academic Year C. Change Student Information System from Compass to Power School. III. Governance A. Compliance Check: required governing board training: Confirm completion of required training (http://ucap.schools.utah.gov/ by Anderson and McKeachnie. B. Nominate Board Committee Member: Nominate Kym Robb as board committee member. C. Draft Governance Committee Description: Proposal includes moving director evaluation responsibilities to this committee D. Draft Academic Excellence Committee Description E. Modification to Policy 01-110 Executive Limitation -Is there a reference for this policy? Existing policy simply edited for clarity. IV. Academic Excellence A. Good Things at Terra: Math teacher William Booth published his research in academic peer reviewed journal. B. Director's Report -Student Achievement -Student Enrollment -Charter Fidelity -Parent Partner Group Report -LAND Trust Update C. Policy 01-111 Data Management and Security: Shall the board replace the existing policy with this draft based upon recommendations from the state? V. Facility A. Facilities Expansion Project: Updates on outbuildings and modifications to provide additional needed classroom and office space will be presented. VI. Other Business A. Executive Closed Session: The Board shall consider a motion to close the meeting to hold a strategy session to discuss pending or reasonably imminent litigation, and/or to discuss the purchase, exchange, or lease of real property, and/or the character, professional competence, or physical or mental health of an individual in conformance with § 52-4-204 and 52-4-205 et. seq., Utah Code Ann.
