DIMPLE DELL ADVISORY BOARD
Minutes of 5/13/15 Meeting
Attending: John Farrell,Sherrie Robertson, Diana van Uitert, Doris Richards, Pat Wilson, Jared Campbell, Wayne Johnson, Scott Spackeen, Spencer Mortensen, Ty Harrison, Jeff Summerhays, John Shakula,.
Guests: Bill Gordon, Sharon Gordon, Boyd Summerhays, Dick Spencer, Dave Carruth, Susan Wood (all interested neighbors), Lance Mcnees & Craig Smith (Ecologic Environmental), Brianna Binnebose (Forest Fire & State Lands), Matt Evans (Sandy Fire Dpt.) Travis Poulson (Grass Plus Inc.) Ron Vance (Planning Commision).
I. Meeting called to order at 7:03; members & guests stood & introduced themselves.
II. Minutes of 3/11/15 meeting were approved.
III. Report on Archeological Dig by Lance McNees & Craig Smith of Ecologic Environmental. Photos of representative artifacts were shown and significance of those artifacts was explained. Artifacts have been sent to the laboratory for analysis and a full report will be published in UTAH ARCHEOLOGY in six to twelve months. The presentation was very interesting and received many questions and comments from the group.
IV. Re-vegetation of Questar Pipeline by Travis Poulson of Grass Plus. Sprinkler system installation is approximately half completed, it will function until vegetation is established (about two years). System will be monitored weekly by Grass Plus; however Travis requested that if anyone observes problems (leaks or malfunctions) they are requested to report them to travis@grassplusinc.com or 801 394 2244 or 801 920 6800. They will plant 22 trees, 500 shrubs, and 2000 seedlings. Vegetation will be protected by a fiber matrix spray-on mat. A fence barrier with signage will also be installed and wood chips will be laid down where trails cross the dig area. An onsite meeting to discuss alignment of the trail crossings was scheduled for 6/3/15 at 10AM, attendees will be Wayne Johnson, Ty Harrison, Terry Wood, Travis Poulson, and other interested individuals. Meeting place will be Badger Cove.
V. Fuels Reduction Proposal by Brianna Binnebose of Forest Fire & State Lands. A comprehensive proposal was presented (copy attached). Brianna also handed out copies of a book 'Fire Wise Landscaping in Utah' additional copies can be obtained from her.
VI. Saddlebred Obstacle Course by Doris Richards. Thirty second annual event is scheduled for 10/3/15, motion to approve was made by Jared Campbell and seconded by John Shakula. Motion was passed by unanimous vote.
VII. Report on County Activities in the Park by Wayne Johnson.
-The 'Comcast Cares Volunteer Event' put 48 volunteers in the park who worked on removing spurge, thistles, toadflax, & rye grass.
-County crew will begin mowing annual rye grass in the coming week.
-Another large volunteer work party is scheduled for the first week in June.
-The trail below 700 East will be re-asphalted.
-A new trail on the old 'Draper/Sandy Canal right of way has been approved it will cross the park at approximately 800 E.
-The report on the Architect's study of the Poulsen house and the park HQ building is scheduled to be completed next week.
VIII. Member's Area of Responsibility by Diana van Uitret. Item was postponed until next meeting, it will be an ACTION ITEM; Wayne Johnson will provide maps.
VIII. Letter to County re Nature Center by Terry Wood. The letter composed by Terry Wood and Diana van Uitert was signed by all board members in attendance and will be presented to the County Council by Terry.
IX. Other Business: Ty Harrison reported that he and several volunteers collected 21,000 Toadflax Weevils at Flanders Point which will be given to interested parties for Toadflax control in other areas of the state. The Toadflax Weevil project was deemed to be a resounding success.
X. Meeting was adjourned at 9:01
