- Summary of Emigration Canyon Metro Township Ordinance No. 2023-06-01 On June 27, 2023, the Emigration Canyon Metro Township Council enacted Ordinance No. 2023-06-01, adopting Section 19.73.110 Night Lighting, and repealed Section 19.73.110 Night Lighting the prior ordinance of the Salt Lake County Council adopted for Emigration Canyon in 2012, prior to Emigration Canyon's incorporation as a municipality in 2017. This complies with general guidance and Work Program elements of the general plan. The intent of the ordinance is: To encourage lighting practices that minimize light pollution, glare, light trespass, and sky glow to preserve and enhance views of the night sky. To maintain the rural atmosphere and community character of the Metro Township. To protect ecological conditions and nocturnal wildlife within the Metro Township. To maintain nighttime safety, utility, and security. And to encourage lighting practices that promote energy conservation.
