When a portion of right-of-way is vacated, it is no longer public property. In this case, the petitioner is requesting to purchase these portions of right-of-way to include in their property boundary. These are areas that were platted and dedicated to the City for use as public streets, but were never constructed. The process for removing the status of these portions of public right-of-way as a public street is called a Street Vacation and requires review by the Planning Commission and approval by the Salt Lake City Council. A public hearing will be held with the Planning Commission on this item at a future date. An additional notice for the public hearing will be provided.
