REGULAR MEETING OF THE BUSINESS ADVISORY BOARD May 14, 2025

Housed in the Department of Economic Development, the Business Advisory Board seeks to encourage economic development and target industry relocation within City boundaries. The board also helps direct City economic policy, promote small business growth, support local entrepreneurship, and assist the City in remaining responsive to the business community.
Business Advisory Board meetings are held in a hybrid meeting format. Board Members and staff may participate through an online format, and members of the public may join in person at the City & County Building: 451 South State Street, Room 335, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.

Laura Briefer, Director of Public Utilities, will provide an update on water rate changes to the Board.
b. Open Streets 2025 Overview 30 minutes
Peter Makowski, Deputy Director of Business Development, will provide an overview of Open Streets in 2025 to the Board.

5. City Council Announcements - Austin Kimmel 15 minutes
a. City Budget Season Kickoff
The Salt Lake City Council received Mayor Erin Mendenhall's recommended Fiscal Year 2025-26 (FY26) budget on Tuesday. Unsure about some of the terms used? Find simple explanations in our Budget Glossary .
b. Budget Feedback and Participation.
This year, Salt Lakers can share their feedback with Council members during two budget public hearings-May 20 and June 3-or via a quick survey. The Council also accepts public comments 24/7 via email (Council.Comments@slc.gov), voice message (801-535-7654) or online form submission.
c. Updates to SLC Flag Standards
The Council approved three new city flag designs proposed by the Mayor. Each flag contains a sego lily, an element on the current Salt Lake City flag, that represents the resilience, acceptance and belonging that exemplify the city and its residents. The flags will be displayed at City Hall on Wednesday for educational, cultural or historical observances.
d. Economic Forecast
On Tuesday, May 13, the Council will receive an Economic Forecast Presentation from Natalie Gochnour of the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute Overview of the Budget Process
6. BAB Member Announcements 5 minutes
a. Acknowledgement of the City Flags and creative thinking of the Administration.
b. BAB participation on the City Safety Plan
