City of Aurora City Council Meeting January 20, 2025 Page 1 CITY OF AURORA CITY COUNCIL MEETING JANUARY 20, 2025 FINAL The Aurora City Council came to order at 7:00 pm. Mayor Quarnberg informed the public that proper notice for the city council meeting had been given. Parker Vercimak gave an opening expression of choice and the Council recited the Pledge of Allegiance. PRESENT: Mayor: Daven Quarnberg Council Member: Andy Rasmussen Council Member: Parker Vercimak Council Member: Kelly Mason Council Member: Jim Harrison Maintenance Manager: Jordon Bosh STAFF PRESENT: None EXCUSED: City Council Member: Bryan Sprague Recorder: Clint Johnson VISITORS: Lora Fielding-Salina Sun, Chett White City Council Meeting- 1- APPROVAL OF MINUTES- The City Council reviewed the minutes of the December 16, 2024 Council meeting. City Council Member Parker Vercimak moved to accept the minutes of the November 18, 2024 meeting with a few minor changes. City Council Member Andy Rasmussen seconded the motion. The motion was approved by members: Mason, Rasmussen, Harrison and Vercimak. City of Aurora City Council Meeting January 20, 2025 Page 2 2- OPEN SESSION- No members from the community came forward to discuss issues with the City Council. 3- FIRE DEPARTMENT- Mayor Quarnberg administered the Oath of Office to Fire Chief Matt Long and Assistant Fire Chief Preston Nielson. Mr. Long thanked the City Council for their support during the past year and discussed the status of the Fire Department. Mr. Long stated that there are 20 volunteers who work with the Fire Department with no turnover. 4- WHITE'S SANITATION VISIT- Chett White from White's Sanitation visited the City Council on his yearly visit to discuss garbage service for the community. Mr. White stated that the dates for Aurora City Clean-up will be April 25, 2025 - May 5, 2025. Dumpsters will be placed at the City Shop as has been done in previous years. Christmas and 4th of July pickup was discussed. Jordon Bosh asked about the toilet at the West Park. 5- CIB ROAD PROJECT- Mayor Quarnberg stated that the Road Project is officially completed. The Mayor stated that we did go over budget in a few areas in order to fix drainage issues throughout the City. 6- IMPACT AND CONNECTION FEES- Mr. Johnson had placed the impact and connection fees issue on the agenda but where Mr. Johnson was sick for the meeting, the item will be placed on next month's agenda. 7- SOUTH AURORA SUBDIVISION- Approval of the South Aurora Subdivision will also need to be placed on next month's agenda because the developers were not quite prepared to bring the final plan forward for approval. Aurora City City Council Meeting January 20, 2025 Page 3 8- DEPARTMENT REVIEWS- Jim Harrison- Mr. Harrison stated that buildings and financials seem to be doing well. Kelly Mason- Mr. Mason informed the Council that NS Recreation would be holding their monthly meeting the following night. He also stated that Ms. Batt was doing a good job as the Recreation Director and seems to be getting up to speed on what is required. Andy Rasmussen- Mr. Rasmussen stated that the Fire Department are budgeting three pairs of turnouts for each of the next three years in order to bring them into compliance. The Department would like Aurora City to contribute to the purchase of the turnouts. Mr. Rasmussen also stated that it has been difficult to get Sevier County to help with ordinance enforcement, especially with the property located at 392 N. Old Aurora Rd. Parker Vercimak- Mr. Vercimak informed the Council that the Emergency Preparedness Committee will be meeting soon to discuss the Plan. Jordon Bosh- Mr. Bosh reported that there was a new fire hydrant installed at 100 N 400 W. He also stated that the new subdivision out by I-70 will be an Aurora City first response area. Sigurd Town will need to maintain the fire hydrants and map the hydrants in the new subdivision. 9- WATER AND FINANCIAL REPORTS REVIEWS- The Council reviewed the water usage report, delinquent report as well as the list of checks written and the budget. 10- ITEMS FROM MAYOR QUARNBERG- Mayor Quarnberg stated that he had been contacted by residents who claim that the new road surface is coming up and not sticking properly. He also discussed building a storage shed to store cemetery dirt and salt for the roads during the winter months. Mayor Quarnberg also stated that the summer car show will not be held in Aurora this year, he stated that it will be returning to Richfield. Aurora City City Council Meeting January 20, 2025 Page 4 11- ADJOURNMENT- The Council completed their business and the meeting was adjourned with Jordon Bosh offering a closing expression of choice.
