The Board of Education is considering multiple proposed school boundary changes that may impact your household. In accordance with Utah Code 53G-4-402, the Washington County School District Board of Education has initiated a review of school boundaries, and we are seeking community input on the potential changes.
Each of the proposed boundary changes aim to optimize resources, address population growth, and ensure equitable access to education for all students within our district. This process is intended to better serve students and families while maintaining a strong commitment to academic excellence.
Proposed Boundary Change:
As part of this process, the WCSD school board will carefully review all feedback and, if necessary, may make adjustments to the proposal. For example, they will consider all students attending Horizon elementary and the Chinese Dual Language Immersion program, or smaller adjustments such as students North of Dam Road and Leeds. Other various options will be considered as well.
Affected Schools: Horizon Elementary School, Secondary Crimson Cliffs Cone Site, Secondary Desert Hills Cone Site
Affected Programs: Chinese Dual Language Immersion
Proposed Changes:
All students living in Leeds, UT would attend the Pine View Cone Site (Pine View High, Pine View Middle, Fossil Ridge, and Horizon Elementary) beginning in August of 2025.
Students currently enrolled in grades 6 through 12 would have the option to remain in the Desert Hills Cone Site boundary (Desert Hills High, Desert Hills Middle, and Sunrise Ridge Intermediate), however no bus transportation would be provided.
All students living in the boundary of Horizon Elementary School (including the Chinese Dual Immersion Program) would attend the Pine View Cone Site (Pine View High, Pine View Middle, Fossil Ridge, and Horizon Elementary) beginning in August of 2025.
Students currently enrolled in grades 6 through 12 would have the option to remain in the Crimson Cliffs boundary (Crimson Cliffs High, Crimson Cliffs Middle, and Washington Fields Intermediate), however no bus transportation would be provided.
How does the proposed boundary change affect the Chinese Dual Language Immersion program? With this proposal, the Chinese dual language immersion program would be housed in the Pine View Cone Site (Pine View High, Pine View Middle, Fossil Ridge, and Horizon Elementary) beginning in August of 2025.
The Chinese DLI program will also be available for those students currently in the program grades 6-12 who choose to remain in the Crimson Cliffs boundary (Crimson Cliffs High, Crimson Cliffs Middle, and Washington Fields Intermediate), however, no bus transportation would be provided. The Chinese dual immersion program will sunset after those students move through the cone site or the numbers are not sustainable, only remaining in the Pine View cone site.
