Public Comment
Chair Adams
Jeneal Christian - loves current mission statement, supports a Montessori philosophy but does not believe that full Montessori could adhere to State Standards. Advocates for project based, Montessori inspired
Jim Haendiges - supports project based, montessori inspired education. Maintain an elastic approach with Montessori because it needs to be flexible in order to succeed in a charter environment.
Denis Sinnisterra - has always been a hybrid but the inconsistency in each classroom has been a problem. We need consistency within the classrooms. Child centered education, the child will thrive if we allow them to lead their education. There are many ways to incorporate Montessori with Project Based - hire consultants, community support to keep Montessori here.

Response to previous Board Meeting concerns
Jamee reads a public response
Courtney Carter - left last meeting confused and unsure what happened last meeting. Feels the principles of Montessori are alive and well in this school. Montessori is an integral part of why people are here at this school. Montessori is the core of what happens in this school and what makes it great.
Elizabeth Chesley - an update to the Mission Statement is warranted to create greater unity.
Shelby Bridges - supports Bryan and loves what he is bringing to the school
Bryan Clyne - We are less Montessori than we've ever been as far as number of certified teachers, etc., but we're more Montessori than ever in the way we are implementing our education.
Jessica Aikens - fears taking Montessori out of the Mission because it's so much of who we have all become.
RaLynne Parry - asks if there is a space to consider true Montessori here even if it's many years down the road? Bryan responds with not without amending Montessori in some way to accommodate State requirements. Courtney Carter responds that it may just be a premature question and once we get our enrollment up, teacher attrition under control and scores up funding will be in place to consider becoming more Montessori as we go. Chris Christensen states that the rubric for professional business isn't functioning and in order to become a profitable school we have to focus now on the business side of fixing the scores, teacher attrition and funding issues.
Shannon Greer - make sure that the Board and the school can speak to what Montessori is to us.Whatever we do, we must do it with fidelity, consistency, measurable. We need to be able to attract strong educators. Identify what makes us stand out - Montessori helps us stand out and be identifiable. As budget increases, we can train on what Montessori is to us and communicate it to the community. The most likely scenario of Montessori succeeding in Utah is a modified version on Montessori. There is value here in our school surrounding the idea of teaching Montessori - capitalize on what's working and what doesn't and make it work for the public. Identify what Montessori looks like to us as a school and market that to the public.
