DIVISION OF WATER QUALITY UTAH DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY PUBLIC NOTICE OF GROUND WATER CLASSIFICATION AND PUBLIC HEARING PURPOSE OF PUBLIC NOTICE The purpose of this public notice is to declare the State of Utah's intention to receive public comments and hold a public hearing on the proposed Aquifer Classification for the East Shore Area of the Great Salt Lake, Davis County, Utah. BACKGROUND In accordance with the provisions of Utah Admin. Code R317-6-5, Friends of Great Salt Lake has submitted a petition to the Utah Water Quality Board ('Board') to classify the ground water of the shallow, unconfined aquifer in the East Shore Area of the Great Salt Lake, Davis County, Utah as Class 1C, Ecologically Important Ground Water. Documentation supporting the petition may be examined on the Division of Water Quality's (DWQ) Public Notice Webpage: https://deq.utah.gov/public-notices-archive/water-quality-public-notices. PUBLIC HEARING Both written and oral comments will be accepted at the hearing. Prior to the hearing DWQ will hold a short informational session on the aquifer classification. In-Person Hearing Location: Central Davis Sewer District Office Conference Room 2200 S Sunset Dr Kaysville, UT 84037 Date: May 7, 2024 Time: Informational session at 6 PM Public Hearing at 6:30 PM PUBLIC COMMENTS Public comments may be made and recorded at the hearing and during the public notice period beginning April 7, 2024 through July 8, 2024. Written public comments can be submitted to: Benj Morris, Groundwater Protection Section, Utah Division of Water Quality, PO Box 144870, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-4870 or electronically by email at: wqcomment@utah.gov or at https://deq.utah.gov/water-quality/water- quality-electronic-submissions. Please include the following details for electronic submissions as the purpose or subject: Aquifer Classification for the East Shore Area of Great Salt Lake, Davis County, Utah c/o Benj Morris. After considering public comment, the Division of Water Quality may reissue, revise, or abandon the classification.
