Midvale City would like to donate a mural to be put on one side of the County's Midvale Senior Center. The Midvale City Mural Festival is scheduled for this summer. The aim of showcasing these world-class artists is to create an aesthetically pleasing, and welcoming feature for Midvale residents, business owners, and the Midvale Main Street location. Resident Review Presentation and Questions, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) - Laura Allred Hurtado (Executive Director) Mr. Castillo gave the Board an overview and process of the Resident Reviews. Information on UMOCA was emailed to the Board prior to this meeting. Ms. Hurtado explained UMOCA started in 1931. Audiences and the community know their legacy as a historic leader of the avant-garde in Utah. They are continuing this tradition, as an independent voice, invested in the art of our time, that fosters open and relevant conversations about the world we live in today. To keep up with the current artistic trends and exhibit work that focuses on issues related to SL County's diverse population. An example is the exhibit: As the Lake Fades (history through art about the Great Salt Lake, and what is happening to it now). UMOCA has a strong financial budget and has been able to grow this budget. UMOCA staff have developed outreach and audience programs. In 2022-2023 they had 48,555 visitors, 132 artists exhibited, 16 LGBTQIA+ youth artists, and 4 Artists-in-Residence. In 2020 175,000 students participated in UMOCA's outreach program. UMOCA is seen as an iconic cultural center in downtown, our community knows UMOCA as the leader of contemporary art. They see the need and provide both a place for gathering and a platform for dialogue with varied cultural communities in our state. They provide guides in Spanish and have large print for the sight impaired. Education programs service Title I schools in low-income communities. Free field trips are offered to all schools across SL County to the Museum. With an increased POPS allocation from the legislature, UMOCA has expanded their education dept. They have also actively worked to increase the diversity of the board of trustees. This has resulted in a greater number of women and people of color serving on the Board. Ms. Hurtado went over UMOCA organizational structure and their 3-5-year strategic plan. They are consistently looking for ways Arts & Culture can continue to support their resident organization. A question-and-answer period ensued, all questions asked were answered. 6. Resident Review Presentation and Questions, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company - Thom Dancy (Executive Director) Mr. Dancy gave an overview and historical highlight of the 60 years of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company (RWDC) by sharing a video of RWDC. Their goal is to continue to honor the legacy founders of Joan Woodbury and Shirley Ririe by performing and providing educational endeavors. Their Board, senior staff and artists are now looking at what defines them now, and what will define them for the next 60 years. Shows will cater to the economic needs of patrons. In 2023 a show, Synthesis, was a collaboration with many local high school dance companies in SL County. They made the decision to reduce ticket prices for low-income students, and to move the performance to an area with free parking to increase accessibility and equity. 48,465 students were served in 2023-2024, across Utah. 2,803 teachers collaborated with RWDC in 2023-2024. In 2023-2024, the company engaged in rural education performance tours to Box Elder, Carbon, Cache, Daggett, Duchesne, Uintah, Wasatch, Kane, Garfield, Wayne, and Emery School districts. RWDC is engaged in teacher training workshops every summer at the Rose Wagner. They enjoy partnerships with other organizations that make up the Performing Arts Coalition. Example is the yearly collaboration to expand Dance West, a summer intensive for college-age dancers hosted with Repertory Dance Theatre and the University of Utah School of Dance. Mr. Dancy went over their Board of Trustees and staff, and their responsibilities. Their Board of Trustees and Executive Director has begun the creation of a new 5-year strategic plan, and this plan was briefly explained. Started the Joan Woodbury and Shirley Ririe Legacy Works Fund. So far, this fund has raised over $70K to bring great art in perpetuity to the state. They are excited to continue their partnerships with the George S. and Delores Dore Eccles Foundation, The John and Marcia Price Family Foundation, and its many amazing individual donors to continue this fund's growth and capacity. Art access funding has also added to the experience for kids during their Moving Parts Series, a sensory-adjusted performance for intellectually disabled children in our community. Art Access funding will pay for education work with Equality Utah in 2024, where the company will examine how they best work with and provide for our LGBTQIA+ community through education and performance. Next 60 years the company will work on: A focus on dance education and income diversification. They will launch a new program for K-6 students called Dance Space for Kids. They are examining its investment strategies and work has begun on establishing a larger company endowment as soon as 2024-2025. Growing and diversifying a Board of Trustees, that represents company legacy and the increasing changes to the city's demographics. Growing the company's individual donations by 33% over the next 5 years through thoughtful cultivation and stewardship. A question-and-answer period followed. 7.
