In alignment with Utah State Code 35A-16 Part 4, the Department of Workforce Services' Office of Homeless Services (DWS-OHS) will accept applications for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Homeless Shelter Cities Mitigation funding.
Per Utah Office of Administrative Rules R988-400-5, any municipalities that host an eligible shelter that was not open on or did not meet the capacity requirement for an eligible shelter on the night of the 2024 Housing Inventory Count (HIC) must notify DWS-OHS of their intent to apply for funding on or before 5:00 PM MST on April 14, 2024. A letter of intent signed by the municipality's chief officer must be submitted via email to Kellie Koester at kkoester@utah.gov. That letter should include the following:
- Year-round bed capacity of the eligible shelter,
- Description of population served,
- Date that all shelter beds opened, or detailed timeline of when those beds will be available
DWS-OHS staff will work with municipalities to determine the capacity of the eligible shelter to determine funding levels for FY25. Municipalities will additionally need to complete an application for funding estimated May 2024. Please follow the Public Notice Website for forthcoming information on this application process.
