Agenda Item #1 Pledge of Allegiance, Roll Call, and Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes
Harold Hunt spoke during the public comment period to discuss the sidewalks being torn up near his house. He states that they are a major safety hazard and the width is at least six feet. June believes that the sidewalks were torn up by Light Link for VanCon. Mayor Timothy will push to have it compacted with gravel. Mr. Hunt also stated that the road repair near his home is starting to fail and there is a large crack. He believes that the road is going to give out. June stated that Nielson's Construction didn't put enough asphalt, but he doesn't think the road will fail.
Carolyn Zauss also spoke during public comment as a neighbor of Mr. Hunt and expressed the same concerns and would like to see the road fixed as it is a major concern.
Agenda Item #3 Opal Myers - Street Drain Concerns
Opal Myers has many roads going around her property with a barrier that was put in to prevent flooding. However, she is still experiencing flooding and there isn't a drain. Every single year her family has experienced flooding. They have to get the house leveled, but now that the road is torn up due to construction, there can be a drain put to the north of her home to help out. Councilmember Nelson is wondering if a neighboring street could also benefit from a drain to prevent further impact to Ms. Myers' street. June is going to look into this and see what can be done.
Motion:
Agenda Item #4 Mike McCandless - Wellington Microtech
In 2017, Mike McCandless worked with the mayor and council at that time to go into an agreement to bring business to Wellington City. If they had started building before COVID the project would have cost 138 million dollars and now it is going to cost 300 million dollars. Which is why Mr. McCandless and Mike Roberts are asking for an extension. They're willing to write the city a check for the property for the land. They initially acquired the land to bring economic growth to the area with an operation that is like a crude refinery. A good portion of the parcel is in Wellington City limits rather than in the county. Mr. McCandless states that they are down to the last little bit of preparations and that construction should begin in 2024 after six months of engineering. The mayor stated that he would like to see ground broke in September of 2024. Council member Nelson stated that the value of the land has risen a great deal and that should be considered by the city while negotiating.
