Report
Summit Academy
Summit Academy Draper
We held our school spelling bee in January. We had a wonderful guest judge-Mr. Z. Cameron Moreton and Campbell Gardner were our first and second place winners that will be representing our school at the regional bee in March.
On January 20th our SPO hosted a wonderful Literacy Night. Students received a passport that they took to different rooms to learn about literacy around the world. We also had author Laura Rupper and illustrator Jessica Parker do a great presentation for parents and students on the process of writing and creating a book.
Also on January 20th our 8th grade student council students participated in Charter Day on the Hill. They were able to meet with Representative Stenquist, tour the Utah Capitol, and spend the day with students from other charter schools.
Summit Academy Independence
We had a lot of fun with our reading contest and met the school goal with students reading 550,159 minutes.
Summit Academy Bluffdale
We have had 2 Open House nights so far this month and they have been very well attended. At this point, it looks like we will be increasing our enrollment and adding additional classrooms. We really enjoyed meeting the new families and welcoming them to our Summit community.
We had a successful Family Literacy Night with fun art and literacy activities for the whole family. We had a visiting guest author and illustrator who presented the awards for our literacy and art contests. It is always wonderful to be together as a community.
Our Spanish Immersion classes are filling up fast and will most likely have a waiting list this coming year. We are currently interviewing for the 3rd grade Spanish teacher and we'll be sure to keep you informed as we make our selection.
Summit Academy High School
We have 6 students that have been selected as finalists for Sterling Scholar!
Eric Pesci - Business & Marketing
Sarah Park -Social Studies
Brooklyn Stevenett -Science
Keilah Van Hees - Speech, Theater, Debate - *Keilah has also reached Premier Distinction, the highest degree in the Nation Speech and Debate Association Honor Society. Fewer than 3% of NSDA members earn this distinction prior to graduation.
McKenzie Huong - English
Olivia Backus - Mathematics
Our monument sign is finally finished, and installation has begun! We will soon have a street marker for our high school.
We are excited our German Bridge program has been so successful. We owe this to our amazing teacher Maria Andrea. She came here from Germany last August and has worked with the state and University of Utah to make this program successful. She taught two sections of German this year and the program has grown so much that next year she will be teaching 6 sections of German.
