Emery County Trail's Committee
September 6th, 2022, 8:00 am
In Attendance: Les Wilberg, Rod Player, Steven Jeffery, Wayne Pahl, Larry Johansen, Robin Hunt, Don Bennett, Terri Bennett, Terren Powell, Wayne Luddington, Ed Geary Kent Wilson, Adriana Chimaras, Jim Jennings and AnnDee Mead
1. Approval of Minutes: August 2nd, 2022 Motioned by Wayne 2nd by Larry
2. Discuss/Approve/Deny
3. Discuss Reports of the Following:
a. BLM - Cane Project will be on 9-19. Joe's Valley Fest at the end of the month. Park Rangers are coming back. Myron's position and SRP position are flying. Fence at Swinging Bridge should be fixed by the end of the month. Still working on parking at Willow Springs. Contracts going out for fencing material. There is a meeting this month with SHPO and Emery County Historical Society to plan a project/task list for interpretation and volunteer work at cultural sites.
b. Forest Service - Myron gone on fire, set Les update. He has been working on trails. They graded clear over Skyline. Back Country Horsemen have been working on replacing bridge at Josephite Spring. Discussion about other bridges that need work Suggestions for OHV garbage bags as swag.
c. State Parks - Millsite and Huntington are still boatable. Snow cats ready when needed. Desert starting to pick back up. Discussion about grass and watering at Huntington State Park.
d. Committee Members - Arpeane Jamboree starts tomorrow based out of Ferron, 26 registered right now. Discussion about a Swell Trail Fest like they do in Northern Utah. Thank you Adriana and Jim for representing the county at Little Cedar Mountain. While there are a lot of things to work through, the Cedar Mountain Trial is still an exciting project. We should know soon if we will be awarded the IMBA Grant. Discussion about the State parks and recreations and their new structure including law enforcement, FIG Grants and trail dozer training, including future opportunities.
e. Commission
f. Travel Bureau and Public Lands - BLM Moab is not able/willing to help with building parking for the Athena Bike Trail. Adriana recently met with the BLM and Green River City to discuss Swasey's Beach and other possibilities for bike trails. Green River has expressed concerns about use at Swasey's Beach and we hope to plan a clean up day. Trails map have been printed and are available. Working on counters and visitor data.
