85th WMD Civil Support Team (CST) U.S. Army Capabilities Demonstration -
Maj. Alexander Reitzel
The 85th CST is federally funded to provide assistance for hazmat, natural disaster, and terrorist related incidents.
They have 22 full time Army National Guard Hazmat Techs.
The request for assistance from the CST must come from a public service agency. Services are performed at no cost to the jurisdiction.
Once a request is made, the CST is required to be out the door from their armory in 90 minutes - then add transit time.
The CST has an Operations, Hazmat, Medical, Science, and Communications sections.
They are happy to do phone consults to see if they can be of assistance.
Their strength is when there is an unknown chemical or threat.
It is best to contact them directly @

Above ground petroleum storage tanks must be registered, the deadline is June 30, 2023. Please see the attachments for more information.
We need to do more outreach to let people know what their obligations are for Tier II reporting and petroleum storage tanks.
In January, we plan to look at our goals for 2023 and re-evaluate where our LEPC is at and where we need to go.
LEPC Membership (forms and new members)

Briefings
Local Incident Briefs
A local jurisdiction had a spill recently and there was a major breakdown in communication. There was a report of 4700 gallons of diesel in the water - later it was found to be a spill of 178 gallons. County did not get notified. We need to do better in communication. Lt. Quittner will be working with the Health Dept and other partners to improve this process. If there is a large spill, please let people know. Use the 'reasonableness' standard.
