The Taylorsville City Council approved Ordinance 21-13 on September 15, 2021, adopting a text amendment to the Taylorsville Municipal Code, Sections 13.07.020, 13.08.020, 13.09.030, 13.10.020 and 13.11.010 related to accessory dwelling units (ADUs), extended living areas, guesthouses, and corresponding definitions.
In its 2021 session the Utah Legislature passed House Bill 82 (HB82) related to internal accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Effective October 1, 2021, municipalities must allow internal dwelling units as a permitted use in all single-family residential zones. The legislation limits the extent to which municipalities and private developments can regulate ADUs. These limitations do not apply to detached ADUs, and municipalities may continue to prohibit or regulate detached units with full local authority.
A copy of the ordinance in its entirety is available to view at the Taylorsville City Recorder's office.
