Description/Agenda
Grand County, Utah - May 14, 2021: On April 30, 2021, Solid Waste Special Service District #1 (District) acquired the business assets of Monument Waste Services, LLC's Utah-based operations and purchased the real property located at 2295 South Highway 191, Moab, Utah, which functions as a solid waste transfer station that is critical to cost-effective solid waste management services in Grand County, Utah.
In addition to managing the operations at the Moab Landfill, the Klondike Landfill, and the Community Recycle Center, the District will now manage the solid waste transfer station and perform solid waste and recycling collection and hauling services. As part of the combined operations, the District submitted an application to the Utah Division of Corporations and Commercial Code and was approved to operate under the DBA 'Canyonlands Solid Waste Authority.' Although Solid Waste Special Service District #1 will remain the legal entity name for the organization, the District will largely be referred to as Canyonlands Solid Waste Authority moving forward.
The District was created by the Grand County Council in 1993 to manage solid waste generated by the residents and businesses of Grand County, Utah, and is governed by a five-person Administrative Control Board consisting of representatives from the Grand County Commission, Moab City Council, Castle Valley, and two At-Large volunteers that reside in Grand County.
