Item #1: Robert welcomed everyone @ 7pm. He welcomed and introduced David Johnson, the new city manager. Everyone introduced themselves to him. Robert asked if everyone had looked at the minutes from November. Ted moved to accept the minutes, Len seconded it and it passed.
Item #2: The commission officers are reviewed annually. Robert asked if anyone had any desire to replace the current officers. Robert Ogle is the chairman and Len Gasser is the vice chairman. Len made a motion to reappoint the current chairman, Ted seconded it and it passed unanimously.
Item #3: The group had a discussion on ADU's (accessory dwelling unit). Bret thinks it would be a good idea for Blanding city to take another look at ADU's. About 15 years ago, the city of Blanding revised the land use ordinances, in an effort to make housing more affordable. ADU's are allowed as a basement apartment, an apartment attached to the house, an apartment over the garage, or connected to the garage, but they aren't allowed as a stand alone dwelling unit in the R1 zone. A minimum of 700 square feet is required for an ADU. ADU's cannot be sold off as a separate lot or unit. Robert advised that he would like to see a clear definition of what an ADU is and add that to the definitions section of the binders. The group continued to discuss housing, rentals, construction, lots, flag pole lots, enforcing ordinances, growth, planning and costs. Bret advised that right now, Blanding doesn't have any regulations for short time rentals, in any zones. Bret thinks it would be beneficial to review ordinances and see if they are doing what we want them to do and are they heading us in the direction we want to go as a community?
Item #4: Sheri Pugh will be joining us next month as a new member of the commission. Robert said that the commission did really well with training last year and asked if there was anything that they needed to review. David said that he was going to make the planning commission meeting a priority, as planning is always important.
Ted made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Robert seconded it and it passed.
