Monthly Subcommittee Check-in Reports
1. Conduct subcommittee monthly check-in reports:
Preservation 1. Get an update on the Old Town Hall restoration.
- SHPO's 2021 grant application is due February 12. Scott Darrington gave us permission to apply, saying that the city will match funds from the capital expenditure account. ($10K from SHPO + $10K from city = $20,000 project total)
- Update from Brent about the status of funding for this building (phase 1 is $153K, and phase 2 is about $200K). The project hinges on city council's decision whether to fund or not. They meet in February to decide FY2022 budget.
2. Talk about the Cemetery inventory project. (Headed up by Emily)
- BillionGraves has an app that we might want to build off. Laurel made a sample with Fanny Stewart's gravesite. Laurel has Geri's obituaries and can start feeding life sketches into Family Search, which feeds BillionGraves' app.
- Next steps: 1) Meet with the Cemetery Sexton; 2) Start an historic headstone inventory.
Archives 1. Review upcoming training opportunities.
- 'Museum Skills Lab: Conducting an Inventory' (hosted by SHPO): January 20 at 12 noon
- 'Archive Basics' (hosted by USHRAB): March 10 at 1 PM; or March 18 at 1 PM
2. Re-schedule our in-person assessment with Jennifer Ortiz from the Utah State Arts and Museums when their office will allow. Laurel will follow up with this.
3. Review next inventory sessions: Wednesday, February 10 (4:30 PM) and Thursday, February 11 (10 AM). Due to the size of the room and social distancing needs, only 2- 3 should attend.
History & Publications Do we want any kind of Strawberry Days book (small print run, also digital download)? Is the SD Committee already doing this? Coordinate with them. Will require initial print run money.
Laurel will begin revising Volume 2 of the city's sesquicentennial history books with the goal of a small print run. This will likely take until the end of the summer or fall and require budget money from our 2022 FY.
Community Outreach 1. Update on our Facebook event?
2. Do we want a presence at Strawberry Days? If yes, who will volunteer to head this up?
- Even though it's their 99th year, they are having a 100th celebration.
- We could do a display of the 'History of Strawberry Days' in the Old Town Hall. We'll need to start our research now for display production (pictures, professional signage).
- Guided tours of the Rose Garden with our walking tour book.
- Do we want to sell any Strawberry Days items (SD history book, art prints, bookmarks, etc.)?
Other Business Items
1. How can we partner with the Pleasant Grove Arts Commission?
- Virtual Valentine of Loved Stories event-From Stacy Martineau: 'We are filming city residents reading their favorite picture book, grouping them together, and showing them the week before Valentine's Day. It's a Virtual Valentine of Loved Stories. You could introduce yourself and explain a bit about the HPC. We are hoping to put names with faces with the service that you give to the city. Register at plgrove.org/library.'
- Baldr activity-PG Arts Commission meets on January 28 and would like a few of us to attend. They are beginning a 'Baldr activity,' which is hiding a stuffed Viking throughout the city for residents to find based on hints. These could be historic sites.
- Future collaborative events? What about an art exhibit of paintings or photography of PG historic sites? Or local artists? Could be displayed in library or Old Town Hall (once the interior is renovated). The Arts Commission has access to CARE Tax funds for projects.
2. SHPO is hosting their annual CLG training via Zoom on February 3 at 10 AM. Laurel is registered. Any others?
