TOWN OF JOSEPH
2019-2020 BUDGET & CERTIFIED TAX RATE HEARING
JUNE 20, 2019
PRESENT: Mayor Campbell, Jared Campbell, Troy Campbell, Doug Nowell, Marty Anderson
PRAYER: Doug Nowell
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Campbell
Mayor Campbell welcomed all who were present to discuss the many changes that were made to the budget from last year.
Doug asked if the Veteran Memorial Fund was all grant money. Haley explained it was all the money the cemetery committee had raised for the cemetery by selling books, the metal collections, & bake sale. It also included the grant money for the computer program that was $6,300.00. Which will be paid.
Concern over the Flying U closing in September was discussed.
Jared asked if the $424,000 under the Capital Outlay is the money for the streets. Haley wasn't sure, she said she would check with Pelorus and make the correct adjustments. It was showing as an expense when it hasn't been used yet. He also asked if we changed anything on insurance. There were changes in that allocation.
*Utilities under Admin were under budget. It was revised from $4,000 to $6,000.00.
*Telephone under Admin was revised from $2,200 to $1,000. The office cancelled the land line and went to a cell phone. It saved money for the town.
*There was $20,000 in Penalties and Forfeitures under Water. It was an overage read on water that was changed to a customer, but had to be credited back. Haley will call Pelorus to get it worked out.
*Overall the budget looks good and the town has made money on their water. With a tax increase .0013 $17,037.00 the town should make almost $10,000 more. The current rate is .00056% $7,391.00 a year. Jared made a motion to increase the tax rate Troy seconded the motion. All were in favor.
If the Flying U closes the town will lose a lot of money.
Jared motioned to close the meeting Doug seconded the motion.
