Agenda Items
1. Conduct subcommittee reports:
Preservation
Update on the Old Town Hall project. (Laurel)
- Bathroom is finished, and Deon is waiting on the ADA sidewalk.
- Beautification Commission is holding meetings there as of June 1.
- We need to create a punch list of items we want done on the building, and then find the cost. Laurel will see what funds are available.
Community Outreach
Should we cancel all community outreach events (historic home tour, SHPO workshop) in 2020? Or should we postpone to the fall or winter?
Digitization & Archives
Our next archive inventory session is Wednesday, July 8 (4:30 PM) and July 9 (10 AM).
History & Publications
Laurel has a draft of a new Rose Garden walking tour booklet. She wrote it for Strawberry Days, but we can roll it out at Heritage Festival instead (if held). Any additions to it?
2. Should we apply for a SHPO grant in August? Potential projects include: phase 2 of Old Town Hall renovation, re-inventory of our historic district, others? Discuss issues:
- Can the city match funds in 2021? They're on track to lose $1 million in sales tax revenue from the COVID shutdown, and budgets will be cut. Laurel is waiting a reply from Scott Darrington about the city's ability to match funds in 2021. If they can't match, we could use a bit of our Commission budget.
- A re-inventory costs $5,000 to $10,000 depending on how many homes are on the re-inventory. This means that this project can only be accomplished with a city match. If the city can't match funds, we can't do this project in 2021 (or we'd need to allocate our entire Commission budget to this project).
- What are the lessons learned from the 2019 grant? (i.e., we lost 5 months of our 12-month grant time on Reavly Engineers not returning calls, SHPO doesn't offer as much assistance as we thought). Laurel will contact Cory Jensen (SHPO historic homes) and ask his role in a re-inventory-if it's minimal, then we'll be in the same situation as the 2019 grant.
3. We start a new budget year on July 1. Where should we allocate funds in 2021? Laurel will create a budget sheet for our July meeting based on this discussion.
4. What should we do with our postcard project? Send it out without an ad for a community workshop? We could still include a line to 'find us on Facebook.' Laurel has addresses of all homes currently on register.
5. Scott Darrington would like a report from our Commission on July 7 or 21 at city council meeting. Would anyone like to join Laurel?
6. As of January 1, city council has not approved the revisions to our bylaws. Can Brent get this on their agenda?
7. The Heritage Festival Committee is meeting June 24 at 7 PM at Pioneer Park (100 E 150 S) to discuss whether HF should be held in 2020 and how it can be held safely.
Next meeting: Thursday, July 16 at 7 PM
