Davis Education Foundation Board of Advisors Minutes October 25, 8:30 AM Present: Jodi Lunt, Judy Williamson, Josh Dunyon, Jonathon Ostler, Kristina Brown, Marie Stevenson, Ginger Chinn, Yvonne Speckman, Diana Windley, Terry Capener, Reid Newey, Julie Fisher, Heidi Murdock, Jason Smith, Angie Osguthorpe, Keri Masson, and Burke Bess via FaceTime Excused: Cory Watson, Spencer Carver, Samila Decaria, Jeanne Jackson, Laura Gabel, Shelly Nettesheim Welcome and Introductions Brian Slagle welcomed the board and recognized Boeing for the $100,000 grant Consent Items: Motion to approve consent items: Julie Fisher Judy Williamson seconded the motion to approve The board unanimously was upheld Board Business: Nominations for new executive board member and a new president elect. Kristina Brown - approved for the executive board Laura Gabel - approved for president elect Jodi Lunt reviewed the Ambassador Program. Please see the Board Ambassador Overview and Responsibilities handout. Ms. Lunt will keep the board informed as this program grows. Board Visits - Marie Stevenson reviewed the DSD School Board visit schedule and invited the Davis Education Foundation board of directors to join them. Usual visits are from 9 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Ms. Stevenson shared information that the Foundation is reaching every classroom. Superintendent Newey shared his thanks and reiterated Ms. Stevenson's invitation to join the DSD School Board on their visits to schools. The DSD Board approved the purchase of a building in West Kaysville. This will house a possible health clinic and the possibility of a new 'stand-alone' school. Only system wide accredited school district in Utah. (secondary schools are the only required schools) 'Accreditation is a great improvement process for our district,' said Mr. Newey. Every school the accreditation team visited they found happy kids. This is important. Mr. Newey invited the board to be involved in the upcoming legislative session and let their voice be heard. Mr. Newey also shared DSD Stakeholder Report and said, 'The Foundation massively influenced this report.' Please read through this report. The board would like Mr. Newey to come back in the spring to discuss the upcoming bond. Christmas Service Project -The executive board proposed adding a service project to our annual Christmas breakfast. This will be at South Clearfield Elementary -placing shoes on the kindergartners. The Board loved and approved the idea. Committee/Event Updates: Trunk or Treat is tomorrow at Young Chevrolet No Hunger Zone will be held off until January, since the Jr. High Amazon spree is kicking off next week. Kristina Brown shared info on Fuel Your School program. This runs through the month of October. SEL update from Heidi Murdock. SEL work will start with a cluster of schools are roll it out to the adults first, as they need to be on board to make this program successful. This will help formalize the process, as it is implanted district wide. There will be a 3-day training in December with more to follow. Any and all are welcomed to attend these sessions. Jodi will send the dates to the board. Gala is April 23. We are in need of silent auction help. If you know anyone who could go gather baskets items from around the county in January-March, please let us know. Jodi will send out a formal invite to you. School Adoption Program - Layton Hospital has paired up with Shoreline Jr. High and Layton Elementary and is making connections and relationships with these schools. This will begin the alignment of needs and resources and this will help to make an outline for other schools to duplicate. Timing between the two entities is another crucial element in making this program work. Board Training: Please either stay and complete this module today or get it done this month at home. Print off the certificate and email it to Kristen Buchi or bring it to the next board meeting.
