Description/Agenda
October 10, 2019
The regular meeting of the Cleveland Town council was held at the public safety building located at 130 W Main in Cleveland, Utah, on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm. Those in attendance were Mayor Michael Taylor and council members Kallon Cowley, Brydi Sharp, Kristen Vose and Joe Wandell (who joined the quorum at 7:34 pm). The meeting was opened with the pledge.
A motion was made by Kallon and seconded by Kristen to approve the minutes from September's meeting. All were in favor. Motion carried.
Item #1 Discuss Angel Tree ideas
There has been a lack of names turned in by the community in the last few years. The council discussed how to find families in need. They will contact bishops, relief society presidents, school personnel, publishing in the newsletter and putting up flyers in the community. The flyers will be put up now.
Creek Sharp was late coming in but did address the council as part of the public comment portion of the meeting. He thanked the council for sponsoring his Eagle Scout project of planting trees at the lower ball field.
Item #2 Set Christmas party date
The council set the date for Monday, December 23, 2019 at 6:00 pm. The council members will provide chili and rolls for 150 people. There will be games and Santa.
Brydi suggested having a Santa mailbox outside of the town office for kids to put their letters to Santa in. Brydi will arrange for Santa to write back to the kids. The council liked that idea and a plan was set in place to make that happen.
A tree lighting ceremony was also planned for December 1, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Old Town Hall. There will be donuts and hot chocolate for all.
Item #3 Review bills and approve for payment
Kallon made a motion to approve the bills for payment and it was seconded by Joe and Brydi. A roll call vote was taken. Kallon voted yes. Brydi voted yes. Kristen voted yes. Joe voted yes. All were in favor. Motion carried.
Item #4 Council reports
Joe spoke about the Old Town Hall not being available for the school to use for their spook alley. Mike said that due to the building being rented four days a week by the preschool, it wasn't possible to have a spook alley there.
Kristen said that the planning and zoning committee approved a zoning clearance for Cindy Ward (attached garage), Richard Webb (unattached garage) and Preston Wilson (new home construction). She also told Mike she needs help filling out a flood plain form. He will help her with that.
Brydi said the service district will be doing asphalt in a few places in town. She asked if there were any more places that needed it. They talked about a few places that needed it.
She also asked about getting a dumpster key. There is a key on the coat rack at the office for anyone to use. It was discussed and decided to not close the dumpsters any longer.
Brydi spoke about the town Facebook page and an inappropriate post that was put up. All agreed that it was not appropriate and would not happen again. The council moved on to discuss recent letters that were sent out and decided that they would change their policy regarding non-compliance issues making the first contact a phone call from the mayor instead of a letter. This will be on the agenda for next month's meeting.
Kallon was doing some follow-up about Judi Bishop. It is a health code violation to have a home without running water. Mike then read the letter that Judi sent to him about her yard being a mess and the flooding of her neighbor's basement that was addressed last month during council meeting. The council discussed ways to help Judi and others like her. Mike will call her and see what help she needs.
Item #5 Adjourn meeting
Kallon made a motion to adjourn the town council meeting. Brydi seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
