NOTICE OF ELECTION 2018 REGULAR GENERAL ELECTION 1. I hereby inform the citizens of Kane County that candidates for the following offices will be elected at the upcoming General Election to be held on Tuesday November 6, 2018. 2. The Declaration of Candidacy filing period for qualified political party candidates and local school board candidates begins on Friday, March 9, 2018 and ends at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018, and; 3. The Declaration of Candidacy filing period for justices and judges of a court of record begins Monday, July 2, 2018 and ends at 5:00 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2018, and; 4. The Declaration of Intent to Gather Signatures period for qualified political party candidates begins on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 and ends on Thursday, March 15, 2018, and; 5. Candidates must submit nomination petition signatures no later than 14 days before the day on which the qualified political party holds its convention to select candidates for the elective office. 6. Attached is a list of filing fees. 1. FEDERAL a. U.S. Senate: One (1) Senator for a six (6) year term. b. U.S. House of Representatives: One (1) Representative for a two (2) year term in the following U.S. Congressional District: The Second Congressional District consists of Beaver, part of Davis, Garfield, Iron, part of Juab, Kane, Millard, Piute, part of Salt Lake, part of Sanpete, Sevier, Tooele, Washington, and Wayne Counties. 2. STATE a. State House of Representatives: One (1) member of the Utah House of Representatives for a two (2) year term from each of the seventy-five (75) state legislative districts. c. State Board of Education: One (1) member for a four (4) year term. District Fourteen (14). The Fourteenth District is located in Beaver, Carbon, Emery, Garfield, Grand, Kane, Millard, Piute, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Utah, and Wayne Counties. 2. BOARD OF EDUCATION Local School Board: One member, for a four (4) year term, from each of the following Kane County School Districts. Kane County School District Four (4) consisting of Kane County Precinct K1:A, K1:B, K1:C, BW, BU, and CW:C. Kane County School District Five (5) consisting of Kane County Precinct AL:A, AL:B, GL, OR:A, OR:B and CM. 3. JUDICIAL a. Supreme Court. There will be an unopposed retention election for one (1) Supreme Court Judge, provided that the incumbent whose term is expiring files during the filing period. b. Court of Appeals. There will be an unopposed retention election for one (1) Court of Appeals Judge, provided that the incumbent whose term is expiring files during the filing period. c. District Court. There will be a retention election for One (1) District Court Judge in the Sixth judicial District, located in Garfield, Kane, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne Counties. d. Justice Court: One Justice Court Judge shall be subject to an unopposed retention election in the county in which the court to which the judge is appointed is located. 4. COUNTY One member, for a four (4) year term, from each of the following: Commission Seat A Commission Seat B Attorney Clerk/Auditor Sheriff 5. BALLOT PROPOSITIONS H.J.R. 7 (2017). Proposal to Amend Utah Constitution - Active Military Property Tax Exemption. 6. MASTER BALLOT POSITION LIST In accordance with Utah Code Annotated §20A-6-305(2), the master ballot position list will be established within 30 days after the March 15, 2018 candidate filing deadline. 2018 FILING FEES a. U.S. Senate $1,355.00 b. U.S. House of Representatives $485.00 c. Utah House of Representatives $80.71 d. State Board of Education $90.95 e. School Board District 4 $50.00 f. School Board District 5 $50.00 g. County Commission Seat A $ 255.59 h. County Commission Seat B $ 255.59 i. Attorney $ 531.05 j. Clerk / Auditor $ 374.33 k. Sheriff $ 412.79 l. Justice Court Judge $25.00 for each judicial office m.
