DIMPLE DELL ADVISORY BOARD
Minutes of 5/11/16 Meeting
Attendees: Harry Webster,Scott Spackeen, Terry Wood, Jared Campbell, Wayne Johnson, John Farrell, Sherrie Robertson, Doris Richards, Diana van Uitert, Spencer Mortensen, John Shakula, Pat Wilson. David Maiorano was excused.
I. Meeting was called to order at 7:02 by Terry Wood, President
II. Review of minutes of 4/13/16 meeting; following corrections were noted
a. Correct spelling of Ty's name from 'Tye' in attendance list & item #5
b. Correct spelling of 'transient' from 'tramsit'
c. Change 'SAP' to 'ZAP' in item #4
John Shakula moved to approve the minutes as corrected, Harry Webster seconded the motion. Motion was passed. See attachment for corrected copy of 4/13 minutes.
III. Sandy Pride Day & Adventure Week:
a. Doris Richards reported that a work party is scheduled for 5/12/16 to clean up below 13th E., pull thistles & remove graffiti. Volunteers will be from Back
Country Horsemen, American Saddle Bred Club, & the Pony Express Club.
b. Diana van Uitert reported that as a result of volunteer work done by the Back Country Horsemen the group has been invited to participate in next year's Sandy Pride Day as well as the Sports AM race in the park.
IV. Purge Your Spurge: Diana van Uitert identified an area in which spurge is growing 'out of hand' and is in need of immediate attention.
V. County Report: by Wayne Johnson
a. The ZAP Tax committee has finalized its selection of projects to receive funding; the Dimple Dell Nature Center was not selected
b. There will be capital funds for paving of 'the school path' at approximately 12th E.
c. The pond is being filled
d. Spreading of chips on trails has been completed for 2016
e. There has been a report of someone cutting down trees in Badger Cove, County officials will investigate whether it occurred on park property
VI. Other Board Comments/New Business:
a. Scott Spakeen noted that there are a lot of annual weeds growing around Park Headquarters, and that now would be the appropriate time to mow them down
b. Doris Richards notified the group that the American Saddle Bred Club would be petitioning the board to approve their annual obstacle course event at the next DDAB meeting. The Obstacle Ride is scheduled for 10/1/16.
c. Spencer Mortensen moved that our next meeting be moved to 5/25/16 for a work party to eradicate the spurge which Diana identified in item IV. above. Business meeting will convene at 6:00 at the Granite Park Pavilion; purge eradication will follow. Motion was seconded by Doris Richards & Diana van Uitert, and was passed. Members are urged to bring gloves and shovels.
d. Jared Campbell proposed that we consider construction of a chair lift to convey sightseers through a portion of the park from 13th E. to Lone Peak Park. Discussion will continue at a future meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 8:02; motion by Spencer Mortensen, seconded by Sherrie Robertson, passed.
