POLICE DEPARTMENT - JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG)
The St. George Police Department has recently been notified of available funding through the United States Department of Justice under the FY 2026 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Local Solicitation. The JAG program offers local agencies the flexibility to allocate justice funds based on their most pressing needs. The St. George Police Department is eligible to receive $30,103 under this program.
These JAG funds can be used to support personnel, equipment, supplies, contracts, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice initiatives. The St. George Police Department will use grant funds to acquire specialized equipment that enhances operational capacity for crowd management, vehicle pursuits, detainee transport, and officer fitness and wellness programs. The requested equipment includes:
- (2) drone speaker and light attachments will improve communication during critical incidents, search operations, barricaded-subject calls, and other high-risk events. The attachments allow officers to issue audible directions and illuminate areas from a safe standoff distance, improving situational awareness and reducing risk to officers and the public.
- (1) SWAT helmet and (1) SWAT communications system will be purchased to support the safety, protection, and coordination of tactical personnel.
- (1) hostage rescue target will support realistic tactical training for high-risk rescue scenarios, helping SWAT personnel improve decision-making under stress, precision, and accountability during critical incident responses.
- (3) WRAP restraint systems will provide officers with a safer option for restraining actively resisting individuals or those requiring additional control during transport, helping reduce the risk of injury to the individual, officers, and others during arrests and custody transfers.
- (9) 40mm less-lethal launchers will support SWAT and Public Order deployments by providing an additional less-lethal option for critical incidents, active resistance, and public-order events, helping reduce the need for higher levels of force.
Together, these purchases will improve operational readiness, officer and public safety, and the Department's ability to respond to critical incidents. The equipment supports communication, de-escalation, tactical coordination, training, and less-lethal response options while reducing risk to officers, involved individuals, and the community.
