Heber Valley Tourism Meeting Agenda - June 8, 2026 - 3:30 pm 1. Welcome a. Mark Nelson, Board Chairman via zoon Sid Ostergaard in place of Mark Nelson. Monday June 8th, 2026 3:35 pm Corbin Gordon - zoom, Kathy Carr - in person, Lisa Orme - zoom, Erik Rowlan - zoom, Nate Hardesty - in person b. Approval of Minutes of May 18, 2026 Motion: Lisa Orem 2nd: Nate Hardesty All in favor 2. Review Financials a. Review of Finances and Check Detail - Jessica Budget: Budget is on track from May meeting. Nothing out of the ordinary. No accounts are over budget. Some extra on the Chamber side. $2400 over International FAMS. Keeping in place to plan 2027 Budget Tab grants are getting paid out Financials are sitting healthy at this time Check Detail: Utilities slightly higher than normal Biggest expense is for a Convention in Las Vegas Love Communications Summer is paid monthly - Winter is paid in full b. Sweep Account Zions Bank Options to have funds in an interest baring account. Earn 2 1/2 percent of interest. Zion would watch the funds as sweeping happens on a daily basis. Board members any interest in this account? Motion to agree and approve to put funds in an interest baring account 2nd: Kathy Carr All in favor 3. Tourism Update a. Tourism Indicators - Emailed Down 2.9% in the months of March and April Occupancy down March and April Demand is beating previous years. Real-estate is down b. Triathlon Event August 2027 - Dallin They would like to us Deer Creek for Swimming. Have course planned. Would like $20,000 in funds for support. How does the board feel in regards to this? Mark: Has UDOT approved of this? Highway 189 and 113, would be a mess with the traffic They are asking for a 3 year commitment. Utah Valley is sponsoring a half marathon and bike in Utah. How to negotiate to have it benefit Wasatch County. Currently not beneficial. Would need to guarantee some give back to Wasatch County. Erik: Willing to go up and down our streets, minimize least amount of people. Highway 189 is to congested. 1 Lane closed Udot for 189, barricades, law enforcement, many resources will need to be used. Do we want this or not? One strength is the Iron man brand. Markeing. Negotiate public safety 7 a.m - 11 a.m 189 will not be completed by this time Summer time in Heber Valley. Not a great investment. Tour of Utah, Ragnar are events that help for tourism in the valley. Athletes train in the area one week prior to events. 4. Director Reports / Group Discussion a. Visitor Center Landscape Bid Review BCM Landscaping $45,000. No flowers on back side. Beautiful fencing around parking lot. Tall grasses, looking for low maintenance. Itemize irrigation, plants, flowers, grasses, boulder, rocks, labor, hauling, rock pillars b. County IT Services Don Wood to give pricing for office to go to County IT services c. Whereabout - Destination Development - Next steps - Welcome Matthew Landlamer and Stacy Humphrey i. Review survey and Objectives Purpose: Long term support. This plan will guide Heber Valley long term approach to destination stewardship, sustainable development, and origin. Timeline: Started in January, back ground information and case studies. Put in analysis report. Working with planning team. Looked at principles. How to perform? Shared information at the Community Expo. Look at indicators and products. Shared information with stake holders Refining the plan Sent surveys to employees, stake holders, and others. Went over: Destination Vision, Competitive position How well do you believe the vision describes an appealing future for Heber Valley as a destination? How to use the tool to NOT turn in to ski towns like those in Colorado. Keep East Village Resort (High end) Heber (locals) Midway (both) How well do you think what describes the differentiate Heber Valley? Draft objectives: HVTED will be looking further at 10 objectives How important do you believe each objective is to maintaining a vibrant visitor economy in Heber valley? How does Heber Valley meet the needs for all people? Growth within - caps to career as an example What kind of thoughts are on the boards mind? Kathy: Better by Nature (County) Mark: Capture the way we are seeing things. How to deal with what is happening at Jordanelle to Heber Valley Park City verse Heber City Dramatic change bypass will cause. Atomic bomb about to go off Jessica: Deer Valley East Village to brand as a destination within themselves Keep Heber the charming town we love. Losing its touch. What can we do to protect? Sid: discussed the different 'districts' Dallin: Own verse share Draft objectives: to connect Deer Valley East Village experience to the greater Heber Valley. Visitors to come to Heber Valley to expose businesses. Most businesses want to be their own thing. Be MIDWAY not Midway-Deer Valley. Minutes away from Deer Valley East. Multiple destinations for ALL people. Minutes away transported to a 'different world.' Next Steps: Draft strategic plan documentation Assessment Implementation launch On going support End of month. Jessica Broadhead - recap of Australia For independent traveler Ski Utah is the second largest Consumers at both shows Biggest challenge transportation Media spin offs Travel planner - Need own booth, not to share with others UOT sales mission to follow Sydney more details to come Australia possibly every other year. Corbin: Songs walk through history playing at noon with free hotdogs. Kathy: Chamber Advisory board is say goodbye to Alfredo. Opportunity in California. He has officially left Black Rock. Review individuals for seat with Advisory board. Lisa: Flag event, Monday June 15th.
