Cannonville Town Council Meeting Minutes
SEPTEMBER 2026
Cannonvillle town held their regular Monthly Board Meeting Wednesday, September 16th, 2026, in the town Hall. The meeting began at 7:00pm.
Public in Attendance: Anita Fletcher, Mark Nelson, Arjean Ivie, Eric Gamboni, Chelsea Nielson, Dallas Clark, RC Franklin, Pete Jensen, & Lu Syrett
Board Members: Stewart Ivie, Alma Fletcher, Landyn Brinkerhoff, excused, Mayor Bill Scoffield, Davis Kendrick; Machele Nelson, clerk

Reading and Approval of Agenda: The agenda was reviewed, two additions, Eric Gamboni, artist & Ms. Lu Syrett, School Board Candidate, to public. Motion to adopt as presented by Steward Ivie, 2nd by Davis Kendrick, all were in favor.
Reading and Approval of minutes: August 16th, 2026, town council meeting minutes were read and reviewed. Motion to approve was by Davis Kendrick, 2nd by Stewart Ivie, all were in favor.
Public Items: They mayor introduced Ms. Lu Syrett from Tropic, a candidate on the Garfield County School board. She highlighted some of her accomplishments and passion for placing Spanish speaking teachers and paras into our local school system. She invited us all to vote for her. Mr. Eric Gamboni then presented an update to his water tank drawings. No decisions were made.
Mayor's Items: Mayor Scoffield again welcomed everybody to the September 2026 town council meeting. He reviewed the water supply line break of August 31st due to the flash flooding in the Paria River and the events of 8/31-9/1. Jones and DeMille and Sunrise Engineering have been involved to help secure emergency funding to reconnect the line and mitigate flooding. UDOT is already working to shore up the road infrastructure at Bulldog Point. Deputy Chad Justice helped bring emergency water and helped in applying for additional emergency funding. Applications have been submitted to the water board as of 9.15. Mr. Dallas Clark asked if the entire stretch of the Paria River running through Cannonville be evaluated at some point for mitigation. Mayor said that the dumpster was being used a lot, but people are encouraged not to overfill it. He reminded everybody of the Constitution Party being hosted by the town this Saturday, September 19th, at 6pm
Departmental Reports:
Planning: Mr. Pete Jensen talked about a recent training course he attended on planning and has some new ideas for our town and some good points of contact with the state experts. He then highlighted a project submitted by Mr. Erik McDonald, and indicated that the planning commission had reviewed it and the conditional use permit, and recommended approval. There will be additional details added to the conditional use permit. With that, a motion to approved was voiced by Stewart Ivie, 2nd by Alma Fletcher, all approved. Mr. Jensen then indicated that Mr. Garth Davidison and Mr. Jordan McCormick had presented a project for 131 homes on the George Town bench. It would be phased and could include single family dwellings and/or some higher density housing for seasonal employees at the National Park. Any further discussion was tabled until additional detail could be provided.
Water: Mr. Alma Fletcher reported that indeed the town lost 500,000 gallons of filtered water the night of Aug 31st due to the flooding Paria River at Bulldog Point, and that we need to get repairs going as soon as possible. He discussed the SCADA work still hadn't started. He was worried that using the spring house for prolonged periods of time would exhaust the solar energy, and he was looking to get some Garkane power to the pumps as a backup. A water inspection of the well, tanks, and the spring house was scheduled by the state for the 17th.
Fire: Mr. Stewart Ivie indicated he would be hosting another fire training session to show town folks how to use the truck and safety equipment. Stage 1 and 2 fire restrictions have been lifted, but he indicated to still be cautious with fire.
Parks: Mr. Davis Kendrick indicated the electrical work around the stage had been completed. The kitchen plugs work remains outstanding.
Roads: No report.
Clerk: Monthly reports were made available for review and control sheet signatures.
