Purpose
The Senior Homeless Prevention request for grant applications (RFGA) will fund projects that provide targeted, upstream interventions paired with case management to prevent seniors from entering homelessness. Utah's senior population represents one of the fastest-growing segments of individuals at risk of homelessness, driven by fixed incomes, rising housing costs, and limited access to wraparound services, making early intervention both a humanitarian priority and a cost-effective alternative to shelter placement or long-term supportive housing.
Description:
New and existing homelessness prevention projects targeting seniors are eligible under this grant.
Eligible project expenses include, but are not limited to:
Supportive services expenses (e.g., wages and fringe benefits)
Housing location costs (e.g., rental application fees, security deposits, utility payments)
Housing stabilization costs (e.g., short- and medium-term rental assistance, rental arrears)
Seniors are defined as individuals aged 62 or older.
At risk of homelessness is defined in 24 CFR 578.3.
Imminent risk of homelessness means an individual who satisfies subsection (2) of the definition of 'homeless' under 24 CFR 578.3.
Organization must coordinate with the local homeless council (LHC) to align with other homeless initiatives.
Organization must ensure access to services including, but not limited to, case management, supportive services, and basic necessities.
Projects must be open to individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or political affiliation.
