AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 1 OF THE SANTAQUIN CITY CODE BY DECLARING SALARIES FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND MAYOR, PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION, CORRECTION OF SCRIVENER'S ERRORS, SEVERABILITY, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR THE ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS, Santaquin City (the 'City') is a fourth-class city and a political subdivision of the state of Utah; and
WHEREAS, the Santaquin City Council has authority pursuant to Utah Code Ann. ยง10-3-818 to establish salaries and compensation for City employees and elected or appointed officers; and
WHEREAS, the Santaquin City Council has determined that the setting of salaries for the Mayor and Council Members is a function of city government which in turn will contribute to the safety and welfare, assist in preserving the health, promote the prosperity, and improve the peace, order, comfort, and convenience of the residents of the City of Santaquin; and
WHEREAS, a public hearing was held on August 18, 2026, to receive public comment on the salaries for the Mayor and City Council Members; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires now to amend certain provisions of the Santaquin City Code regarding the salaries of elected officials;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE SANTAQUIN CITY COUNCIL AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. Santaquin City Code, Title 1 Chapter 20 Section 060 is hereby amended to add subsection K to read as follows:
K. SALARIES. Salaries for Members of the City Council shall be Seven Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Eight Dollars and 47 Cents ($7,848.47) per year; the salary for the Mayor shall be Fourteen Thousand Six Hundred and Sixty Eight Dollars and 30 Cents ($14,668.30) per year. The Mayor's salary includes attendance and/or performance of other mayoral duties; i.e., meetings other than Council meetings, appearances made on behalf of the City, etc. Any elected official has the right to not accept any or any portion of the salary set forth herein.
Section II. Severability
If any part of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstances shall, for any reason, be adjudged by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, such judgment shall not affect, impair or invalidate the remainder of this ordinance or the application thereof to other persons and circumstances, but shall be confined to its operation to
