Objectives
At the end of this meeting, the Commission will:
- Make key decisions needed to move fall programs and prevention initiatives forward
- Confirm Vineyard Cares' primary priorities and level of involvement for fall 2026
- Identify immediate recruitment, workgroup, and Commission action needs
1. Welcome, Attendance & Meeting Overview
- Welcome and quorum confirmation
- Review of priority decisions for the meeting
2. Review & Approval of June Commission Meeting Minutes - Action Item
Review and approve the June 30, 2026 Commission meeting minutes.
3. Family Day / Family Connection Event - Decision Item
Determine the direction for a Vineyard Cares Family Day event, tentatively planned for Monday, Sept 28.
Option 1: Family Dinner in the Park
- Simple family meal
- Family conversation kits or connection trail
- Family photo or photo booth opportunity
- One vendor-led entertainment or engagement activity
- Simple, on-message, and distinctly different from the Vineyard Days Community Block Party
Option 2: Drive-Thru Take a Meal / Donate a Meal
- Simple drive-through family meal distribution
- Family conversation/connection kit
- Opportunity to donate or support meals for families in need
- Lower staffing and event-production needs
Decision: Select preferred direction and identify immediate next steps.
4. Fall Prevention & Partnership Decisions
October 14 Sheriff's Office Safety & Prevention Event
Confirm Vineyard Cares' co-sponsorship and scope of participation in the Sheriff's Office event at Grove Park from 3:00-5:00 PM.
Potential support may include:
- Vineyard Cares booth and prevention messaging
- Treats/giveaways
- Simple safety or connection-focused activity or photo opportunity
- Connection to Red Ribbon Week and broader prevention efforts
Decision: Confirm level of participation and immediate planning needs.
September Suicide Prevention Outreach
Determine a focused and manageable approach for September Suicide Prevention Month.
Potential efforts may include:
- Community yard sign campaign
- Social media awareness campaign
- Friendship / You Matter bracelet campaign
- Combination of selected outreach efforts
Decision: Select September outreach approach and scope.
Additional Opportunity: Consider QPR suicide prevention training as future coalition or community training.
Red Ribbon Week
- Confirm general level of Vineyard Cares support for school prevention efforts
- Identify immediate school follow-up needs
5. Fall Priority Check
Review the current fall plan to ensure priorities are realistic, mission-aligned, and manageable.
- Assessment & Data Workgroup launch in mid-September
- Family Day / Family Connection Event
- September prevention outreach
- October 14 Sheriff's Office Safety & Prevention Event
- Red Ribbon Week school activities
- Guiding Good Choices beginning October 24
- Vineyard City Fall/Halloween Event on October 24
- Welcome, Outreach & Coalition Development Workgroup launching later this fall

- Identify additional community members and partners who should be represented in Vineyard Cares

2. School & Community Partner Spotlight
Debbie Lewis, School Counselor, Trailside Elementary & Vineyard Elementary
- Overview of the school counseling program, available supports and resources, and ways the counseling office serves and connects with students, families, and the community.
- Questions and discussion
3. Community Assessment & Data Workgroup
Introduction to the next phase of Vineyard's community assessment process.
- Purpose of the Assessment & Data Workgroup
- Building on Vineyard's 2025 SHARP data with additional community data, information, and perspectives
- First workgroup meeting planned for mid-September
- Recruiting coalition members and community partners to participate
Coalition Discussion:
- What are you seeing or hearing from Vineyard youth and families that we need to understand better?
- What information, perspectives, or community voices are we missing?
4. Growing Vineyard Cares: Membership & Involvement
Current opportunities to strengthen coalition membership, leadership, and representation.
- Commission Applications: Recruiting applicants for open Vineyard Cares Commission positions
- Assessment & Data Workgroup: Recruiting members for the September launch
- Welcome, Outreach & Coalition Development Workgroup: Launching later this fall following the Assessment & Data Workgroup
- Coalition Membership: Continuing to recruit residents, parents, community organizations, businesses, schools, and other partners
- Events & Outreach: Opportunities to participate without joining a formal workgroup
