Black Canyon Fire Morning Update | August 6, 2026
The fire remains active on all flanks with continued hot and dry weather following last week's monsoonal moisture. Isolated and group torching is occurring within the fire, as well as short uphill runs in Black Canyon and north toward Fly Canyon. The fire has reached the mouth of Black Canyon and crews are working to hold along the eastern flank west of Lowry Water Road and using targeted firing operations to control the fire's edge. Two Utah Army National Guard Black Hawk Helicopters will continue to assist firefighting efforts today.
Protecting communities south and east of the fire will remain a priority. Contingency dozer line has been completed north, northwest of the Reeder Subdivision, and engines are patrolling the area overnight as an additional precaution.
Range is working with permittees to move livestock to safer grounds as fire crews are working with heavy machinery in the area.
For public safety, the Manti-La Sal National Forest has issued a temporary closure (Forest Order #04-10-26-02-02) for portions of the Ferron Ranger District. A map of the closure area is available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/manti-lasal/alerts.
The Reeder Subdivision remains under a 'GO' evacuation order issued by the Emery County Sheriff's Office. Residents should follow all evacuation instructions and stay informed through official sources.
