Torrey RESOLUTION 2026-06-11-04
A RESOLUTION IMPOSING FIRE RESTRICTIONS DUE TO HAZARDOUS ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The Torrey Town fire official has determined that existing hazardous environmental conditions necessitate certain fire restrictions and it is proposed that Torrey Town adopt the restrictions in the Notice of Fire Restrictions attached hereto as Exhibit A; and
UTAH CODE SECTION 15A-5-202.5 provides that a county legislative body may impose fire restrictions based upon such a finding of the fire code official; and
Torrey Town is faced with a significant light fuel load in its wildland urban interface and watershed, that is now drying out; and
After considering the facts presented to the Torrey Town Council, the Council finds that (i) the attached Notice of Fire Restrictions should be approved, and (ii) such action furthers the health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of Torrey Town.
THEREFORE, the Torrey Town Council resolves as follows:
The Notice of Fire Restrictions attached as Exhibit A is approved and the restrictions stated therein are implemented. This order is effective until rescinded in writing by the Torrey Town Council.
This resolution is effective immediately.
Exhibit A
Notice of Fire Restrictions
By order of the Torrey Town Council, the following fire restrictions are in place within Torrey Town, effective at 12:01 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2026. Open fires are prohibited. The use of personal fire pits at individual residences are prohibited. Additionally, the following acts are prohibited:
Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire.
Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer, or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area that is paved or free from any vegetation.
Discharging or using any fireworks, tracer ammunition, or other pyrotechnic devices, including exploding targets.
Cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation.
Operating a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV, or other small internal combustion engine without an approved and working spark arrestor.
The only open fires allowed within Torrey Town, at this time, are propane stoves that can be turned off at valve or switch, pellet stoves and contained charcoal grills.
These restrictions are put in place to protect the Town water supply. Due to the dry spring there is decreased fuel moisture content in the grass and brush that has already begun to dry out and increase the risk of catastrophic fire. Continued high temperatures combined with little appreciable precipitation requires this extraordinary level of fire restriction.
Violations of this Fire Restriction Order are a Class C Misdemeanor in violation of UTAH CODE SECTION 64A-8-211. Questions regarding these fire restrictions may be directed to Torrey Town at (435) 425-3600.
Fire restrictions are effective beginning at 12:01 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2026. This fire restriction notice was published on Thursday, June 11, 2026. This order shall remain in effect until rescinded.
