WFWRD Introduces New Residential Specialty Curbside Collection Service Offerings
Midvale, UT - Effective May 1, 2026, Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District (WFWRD) is introducing new residential specialty curbside collection service offerings for bulky waste items that present unique operational, environmental, and regulatory challenges. This new program is designed to complement WFWRD's seasonal container bulky waste program by providing year-round, convenient, and cost-effective collection options for the following materials:
- Tires (automotive-sized and smaller)
- Mattresses and Box Springs (must be bagged at time of pickup)
- Freon-containing Appliances (refrigerators, air conditioners)
- Non-Freon-containing Appliances (ovens, ranges, washers/dryers, hot water heaters, etc.)
Visit our website (www.WFWRDUtah.gov) to request your curbside pickup. Once a request is received, a Customer Solutions Representative will process the request and notify the requestor of their scheduled pickup day. Items must be placed at the curb as WFWRD staff will not enter homes, fenced areas, or garages. To keep our communities clean, safe, and sightly, it is essential that items are not placed at the curb until the evening prior to or by 7:00am on the scheduled pickup day.
WFWRD is coordinating with a variety of vendors to ensure that these items are recycled to their fullest extent practicable, helping to reduce our environmental footprint and preserve valuable landfill space. Tires will be hauled to a waste tire recycling facility, mattresses and box springs to a disassembly and recovery facility, and certified specialists will safely recover freon from appliances before they are sent to a scrap metal recycling facility.
WFWRD provides sustainable, integrated waste and recycling collection services that promote the health, safety, and well-being of the communities we serve, which includes more than 86,500 households in the municipalities of Brighton, Copperton, Cottonwood Heights, Emigration Canyon, Herriman, Holladay, Kearns, Magna, Millcreek, Taylorsville, White City, portions of Murray, Sandy, and West Jordan, and the unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County.
