Description/Agenda
PUBLIC NOTICE POLICE DEPARTMENT - JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) The St. George Police Department has recently been notified of available funding through the United States Department of Justice under the FY 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Local Solicitation. The JAG program offers local agencies the flexibility to allocate justice funds based on their most pressing needs. The St. George Police Department is eligible to receive $28,968 under this program. These JAG funds can be used to support personnel, equipment, supplies, contracts, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice initiatives. 1. Spillman Mobile Arrest Module JAG funds will be used to purchase and implement the Spillman Mobile Arrest module as an enhancement to the department's existing Spillman subscription. This is a technology-based investment intended to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and completeness of arrest documentation within the department's current records management environment. The module will reduce duplicate data entry, streamline arrest-related documentation, and improve the capture of required arrest data elements at the point of entry. 2. ScentLogix Training Aids for K9 Unit JAG funds will also be used to purchase ScentLogix training aids for the department's K9 unit. These training aids are necessary to support ongoing, realistic, and mission-relevant training for K9 teams. Regular training is critical to maintaining canine detection proficiency, handler effectiveness, and overall team readiness for deployment in support of law enforcement operations. Overall Justification Together, these purchases represent targeted and practical investments that will strengthen both administrative and operational law enforcement capacity. The Spillman Mobile Arrest module will improve arrest documentation, reduce administrative inefficiencies, and support more accurate NIBRS reporting. The ScentLogix training aids will enhance K9 training capability and help maintain readiness for specialized field operations. JAG funding for these items will allow the City of St. George Police Department to improve service delivery, maximize the effectiveness of existing personnel and systems, and support professional, efficient, and accountable public safety operations.
