Cemetery Committee Meeting Minutes

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
1. Roll Call

A prayer was offered by Lynda Norris.
3. Pledge of Allegiance
All present stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
CONSENT ITEMS
The Committee reviewed the following meeting minutes:
March 2, 2026
During discussion it was noted that the April 2, 2025 minutes needed additional review.
Motion:
Andra Carter made the motion:
'I make a motion to approve March meeting minutes.'
Seconded: Gina Hacking
Vote:
All those in favor said 'Aye.'
The motion passed unanimously.
BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Grant Project Update
Discussion included:
Ongoing cemetery mapping project and coordination with a mapping company
Extensive corrections being made to cemetery records and plot data
Use of FamilySearch to gather birth and death information
Difficulty obtaining complete historical data
Work being done to correct burial locations and fill in missing records
Goal to meet upcoming June deadline
Need to track volunteer hours for grant match requirements
Additional discussion included:
Creation of a detailed cemetery map including block, plot, and burial locations
Future plan to install a display board/map for visitors to locate graves
Consideration of adding recognition for veterans, possibly on a wall near the gazebo
Target timeline of Memorial Day for some project elements
No motion was made.
2. Cemetery Grant
Discussion included:
Coordination with Kimball regarding placement of the gazebo
Cement quote received from Geneva Rock (approximately $1,050 for a 12x12 slab, 4-inch thickness)
Gravel to be donated by Sons and Daughters
Discussion of improvements to cemetery layout and infrastructure
Additional topics:
Proposal to redesign cemetery entrance and parking layout to improve safety and accessibility
Concern about fire risk due to parking in tall grass
Discussion of creating a gravel parking area and adjusting road alignment
Plan to review layout onsite at a future meeting
No motion was made.
3. Service Project - April 29th
Discussion included:
Community cleanup project scheduled for April 29
Coordination with youth groups and community volunteers
Tasks identified:
Placing rocks to mark burial locations
Weed trimming and cleanup
Removing unwanted or deteriorated items
General maintenance and beautification
Additional discussion:
Need for supplies such as gloves, garbage bags, and tools
Encouragement for volunteers to bring personal yard equipment
Possible provision of water/refreshments by Sons and Daughters
Spraying scheduled for Wednesday prior to cleanup (cemetery, park, and rec center)
Also discussed:
Responsibility and authority for removing old decorations from graves
Ongoing maintenance concerns including weeds, sagebrush, broken benches, and sprinkler issues
