SALT LAKE CITY CORPORATION SALT LAKE CITY COUNCIL SYNOPSIS OF SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE 009 of 2026 The Salt Lake City Council, at its March 24, 2026, meeting adopted an ordinance that enacts temporary zoning regulations pertaining to daily water use limits on all new non-residential development (e.g. commercial, industrial, and institutional development). This legislation limits exemptions to agriculture, schools, government owned or operated facilities that primarily provide social services, places of worship, and hospitals. This temporary land use regulation shall remain in effect for 180 days after its effective date. In 2021, an ordinance was adopted that prohibits new commercial or industrial land uses that would consume more than an annual average of 200,000 gallons per day.
