Salt Lake Arts Academy Governing Board Minutes September 15, 2025 at 5:30 pm Salt Lake Arts Academy, 200 East Board Members in Attendance: Diana Cabrales, Amy Fehlberg, Claudia Geist, Kelly Goff, Greg Ostrander, Catherine (Cat) Palmer, Reid Prentice, Shantel Stoff Board Members Excused: Sarah Colonna, Carol Fineagan, Whitney Provo, Nick Steffens, Kimberly Veneable, Nick Vienneau, Amy Yuda, Staff in Attendance: Debora Candler, Whitney Childers, Jen Guillory, Nicole Laird, and Dan Rose Quorum: 8 out of 15 Board members present Call to Order Greg Ostrander called the meeting to order and led introductions for new members. Approval of August 19, 2025 Minutes Motion: Amy Fehlberg motioned to approve the minutes of August 19, 2025. Second: Catherine Palmer Vote: Unanimously approved Principal's Report - Deborah Candler Behavior observations have begun at the school. Yard 'Glow-Up' project is progressing. IT Network health was reviewed. IT and Academic Systems - Dan Rose Provided updates on Canva and Aspire rollouts. Shared progress on teacher implementation, features and improvements, and reasons for transitioning from prior systems. (Whitney Provo joined at 5:55 p.m.) Financial Report - Nicole Laird Financial reports through August 31 will be provided. Discussed integrating fees between programs. Noted that hiring an additional paraprofessional may be needed. Previewed a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the outdoor 'Glow-Up.' Development and Communications - Whitney Childers Shared updates on school development and communications improvements. Encouraged Board members to submit reviews for SLArts on Niche. Announced a fall event to showcase the 'Glow-Up' scheduled for October 27, 2025, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Board Meeting Dates Board voted to approve meetings at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates:September 15, 2025;October 20, 2025; November 17, 2025; December 15, 2025; January 26, 2026; February 23, 2026; March 16, 2026; April 20, 2026; May 18, 2026; June 2026 Retreat (date TBD) Motion: Cat Palmer Second: Claudia Geist Vote: Unanimously approved Board Officer and Committee Appointments Board voted to approve the following slate of officers and committee assignments: Officers Chief Administrative Officer - Deborah Candler Business Administrator - Nicole Laird Board Chair - Greg Ostrander Treasurer - Shantel Stoff Secretary - Diana Cabrales Executive Committee Greg Ostrander (Chair) Shantel Stoff (Treasurer) Diana Cabrales (Secretary) Finance Committee Shantel Stoff (Chair) Kimberly Venable Nick Vienneau Greg Ostrander Community Outreach Committee Cat Palmer Carol Fineagan Policy Committee Amy Yuda Claudia Geist Academic Committee Kelly Goff Nick Vienneau Claudia Geist Reid Prentice Behavior Committee Whitney Provo Amy Yuda Board Governance Committee Amy Fehlberg Greg Ostrander Motion: Amy Fehlberg Second: Kelly Goff Vote: Unanimously approved Public Comment No requests to speak were made.
