Cancelling a Municipal Race or Election
1. Confirm Eligibility
o No contested races (number of candidates, including write-ins, does not exceed open seats).
o No ballot propositions on the ballot.
2. Pass a Resolution (City Council)
o Cancels the race or election.
o Certifies that qualified candidates are considered elected.
o Must be adopted no later than 20 calendar days before Election Day October 14, 2025.
3. Provide Public Notice
o Post cancellation notice on vote.utah.gov.
o Publish a Class A notice for your municipality.
o Must be posted at least 15 days before Election Day.
4. Notify Cache County Elections Immediately
o As soon as you know that your city intends to cancel a race or an election, notify a member of the County Elections staff, then send us a copy of your resolution once it has been passed by your Council.
o Early communication allows ballot/VISTA updates and avoids unnecessary costs.
