Weber County Friends of the Fairgrounds Advisory Board Meeting Thursday, July 19th, 2025 Golden Spike Event Center Conference Room Members Present: Teddy Anderson, Tiffany Christiansen, Susan Clontz, Tom Close, Jeremy Dearden, Lee Dickemore, Korry Green, Shae Hill, Sharlan Holmes, Lora Parker, Michelle Taite, Ryan Cortney Staff Present: Duncan Olsen, Jim Harvey, Ashton Wilson, Gabby Eisenbarth, Marty Smith, Todd Ferrario, Emily Scoville, Kim Salas Welcome: Chair Connie Robinson opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. The meeting came to order at 12:01 pm. Approval of Minutes: Connie Robinson motioned to approve the minutes from the June 19th, 2025 meeting. So moved. The motion carried. Weber County Report & Welcome: (Commissioner Harvey) Commissioner Harvey began by giving thanks to Duncan and the team who helped with a mishap the evening before. A tractor had stopped working at the Pioneer Days Rodeo and Duncan had loaned them one of the tractors from Golden Spike Event Center. The show went on! He also added that a Scott Par, a new Comp Controller was just sworn in. Golden Spike Event Center Report: (Duncan Olsen) Duncan reviewed a list of projects that are currently underway, including new lighting near the main entrance, a loping area project and power being added to several different areas on the property at Golden Spike Event Center, which will help with event needs. He added that the biggest project right now is getting ready for the Weber County Fair. Weber County Fair Report: (Ashton Wilson) Ashton started by announcing that the Fair is just 3 weeks away. She let everyone know that information and credentials would be handed out during todays meeting. She asked everyone not to alter their Fair shirts. Ashton asked for a volunteer to help in picking up 'The living Zultar' from the airport on Tuesday, August 5th at 11am. She went on to inform everyone that ads for the fair are live, including ads on Hulu, YouTube, Meta, TV and Radio. She then read through the daily entertainment line up for the Fair. She gave everyone some key points and changes for the Fair this year, including the partnership with the Sheriff's department to show dogs from the K-9 Unit (2 shows), the location of Zultar will be at the North East steps of the Golden Spike Arena Building, the dining tent will be moving closer to the entertainment and a new family friendly motorcycle trick show called playing with gravity will take place three times each day. Ashton informed everyone that the carnival that has been previously mentioned has completely backed out and will not be coming to the Weber County Fair this year. As a result of this change, the Fair layout is being reconfigured. She provided a few points on financials for the Fair, such as that sponsorship is down by $9,500 compared to last year, there are only 700 Derby tickets left and 100 tickets have been pre sold for the Bull Fights. Ashton concluded by asking everyone to respond to the invites Fair Meetings so she plans for enough food. Committee Discussion: (Chair Connie Robinson) Michelle Tate asked what her tasks would be since she is new and was not assigned to a specific area. Ashton recommended to connect with either Kim or Katie to sign up for some of the volunteer shifts that still need to be filled. Duncan then talked about the importance of the staff and Board just to be present at the Fair and to observe what is going on so critical feedback can be provided. Discussion/Action Items: (Chair Connie Robinson) Lora Parker asked Commissioner Harvey if he could bring a couple of special breed cows for the kids to see since there is not a Dairy section at the Fair this year. Commissioner Harvey agreed to help. Lora also asked for a more secure location to store their shavings this year. Ashton agreed to help her with this. Old Business/New Business: (Chair Connie Robinson) Everyone gave a round of applause to Mike Mathieu for his retirement on August 1st. Adjourn: The meeting concluded at 12:28pm. Chair Connie Robinson Motioned. So moved. The motion carried.
