Description/Agenda
(Rough Draft) Minutes of Town Board Truth in Taxation Public Hearing Held August 14, 2025 The Public Hearing was held at the Oak City Town Hall in the Conference Room beginning at 7:00 p.m. The following were in attendance: TOWN OFFICIALS OTHERS Mayor Shim Callister Russell Finlinson Council Member Dave Steele No Public Joined the Zoom Meeting Council Member Jared Rawlinson Council Member Tom Nielson Council Member Copeland Anderson Town Clerk Karen K. Lovell Outgoing Recorder Angie Duston Incoming Recorder Alyssa Nielson The purpose of the Hearing was to propose an increase in property tax revenue. The Oak City Town tax on a $343,000 residence would increase from $84.52 to $96.78 which is $12.26 per year. The tax on an Oak City Town $343,000 business would increase from $153,66 to $175.96. If the proposed budget is approved, Oak City Town would receive an additional $3,525 in property tax revenue per year. Increasing its property tax budget revenue by 13.79% above last years property tax budgeted revenue excluding eligible new growth. There was a virtual link set up for this meeting for those not able to attend in person. The following agenda items were considered: A. Call to Order-Mayor Shim Callister. B. Invocation. The invocation was given by Copeland. C. Consideration for Adoption of Proposed Resolution 2025-05 Approving the Certified Property Tax Additional Revenue. Discussion will Include Reasons for Proposed Increase. The Mayor pointed out that the increase is due to the fact that taxes haven't been increased for five years and was raised only to the bare minimum last time. The new increase would just go over the bare minimum this time. He had meant to do a tax increase the last two years but it didn't happen. All of the Town's costs have gone up. The increase will generally be enough to keep things maintained. Dave pointed out it wouldn't even cover the costs of Oak City Days. Dave believes the Town is still behind most Towns in the area on its tax rate, even if the new increase were approved. (Rough Draft) Tom asked if the increase is approved and the County were to raise property values, would the Town get more revenue? Yes. Tom moved, seconded by Jared to adopt the proposed tax rate increase by adopting Resolution 2025-05. Roll Call Vote: Mayor Callister-Aye. Dave-Aye. Jared-Aye. Copeland-Aye. Tom-Aye. D. Public Comment. There was no public comment. E. Adjournment. The Mayor adjourned the meeting at 7:22 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Approved By: _________________________ Shim Callister, Mayor ________________________________ Karen K. Lovell, Oak City Town Clerk
