In August, the city will begin a multi-week project to clean all main sewer collection lines using high-pressure jetting. Normally there aren't any noticeable issues that homeowners or businesses should be concerned about, but there is potential for water to be pushed up the service line towards the building. It may cause some splashing or bubbles in plumbing fixtures. During the cleaning process, we recommend:
- Keep Toilet Lids Closed - High-pressure cleaning can create air pressure in the sewer line, causing water to splash or bubble in toilets. Keeping lids closed helps prevent messes.
- Cover Floor Drains - Place a towel, plastic sheet, or heavy object over floor drains (like those in basements or laundry rooms) to prevent water or odors from escaping during cleaning.
- Run Water After Cleaning - After the work is done, run water in sinks, tubs, and floor drains for 1-2 minutes to refill drain traps and eliminate any odors caused by air movement in the pipes.
